MHA #10- Saturday evening

With the way things had been going for everyone over the last few weeks, Kitty and Allie had decided it might be good to have a small, semi-quiet apartment party with friends where nothing traumatic happened and they could have fun.

Aaand then Kitty got in from California too late yesterday to get much of anything done so a lot of today was spent cleaning, shopping, and finding some game off the Internet, because with the group they'd invited, it might be good to have something to focus on rather than just glaring at people across the room. Which they'd probably do anyway, but at least it wouldn't be their whole night.

By the time people were due to start showing up, everything had been set up, the place looked presentable, and the pizza had gotten here in time for Kitty to box up a couple pieces for Lucky already, because shut up, that's why.

Yeah. This was clearly just where Derek wanted to spend his evening. And he couldn't even drink until it was fun, people! Do you see the predicament he's in here?

So don't be surprised he was as far away from the center mass of the party as possible without literally lurking in a corner of the room.

Like the corners were a good place to lurk anyway. The apartment wasn't that big. "You actually showed up."

"You invited me." Ergo, he came.

"That answer just means I'm going to invite you to more stuff, you know," she pointed out.

"You invited me and I wasn't busy," he amended. There. Now he could duck out on stupid parties.

"That doesn't help when I'm pretty sure you actively avoid a social life," Kitty pointed out.

Derek just shrugged at that. Because it was so, so true. He would rather be at home with a book. Or brooding about the fact that he blamed himself for all deaths ever.

All of them.

Goddammit, Derek, you'd be able to play trump card for years and Stiles would give in. It's not fair!

"You said I couldn't get a date and I got a date." Sure it was a pity date but it still counted. "You suck and I'm awesome, so there."

Take it like a man, Stiles!

"You got a date." It wasn't a lie, that much as true. "An actual date."

"Yes." It was not that far outside the realm of possibility! "Why would I go on fake dates more than I already have to?"

YES IT WAS.

"I guess that means I don't have to get you a Valentine's Day gift." No baked goods for you, Stiles.

No, Derek, Kaidan didn't magically start liking you or anything; he was just mildly disturbed by you doing your best giant hat stand impression over there.

"Yeah, the fake blood sounds real appetizing."

Kaidan sounded like he dearly wanted to roll his eyes but didn't really know how to. "There's pizza," he said. "Unless that doesn't fit in your diet."

Derek rolled his eyes for him. He was a giver like that. "I can smell the blood."

It had a tendency to kill any hunger, thank you.

"And you can't smell the pizza?" Kaidan asked skeptically.

"It smells like blood pizza." Now you're just being difficult, Derek.

Sorry Kitty, but Clint hadn't gotten a good glare in in a while. "You are, without a doubt, the most social misanthrope I know," he said as he came up beside Derek.

"I've noticed." IT WAS AWFUL, CLINT. AWFUL.

"It's hard to say no to Kitty, huh?" As much as Derek annoyed him, Clint did understand that.

"She's tenacious." Especially after the awesomeness of all their lives lately.

"She wants everyone to be happier, I think," Clint said. "I heard you had a visit from a friend a little while ago."

He meant the dead one, since he wasn't sure whether or not it would be smart to mention he'd met Kate.

Derek tensed at that, watching Clint out of the corner of his eye. "Did you."

So many guests!
