With the way things had been going for everyone over the last few weeks, Kitty and Allie had decided it might be good to have a small, semi-quiet apartment party with friends where nothing traumatic happened and they could have fun.

Aaand then Kitty got in from California too late yesterday to get much of anything done so a lot of today was spent cleaning, shopping, and finding some game off the Internet, because with the group they'd invited, it might be good to have something to focus on rather than just glaring at people across the room. Which they'd probably do anyway, but at least it wouldn't be their whole night.

By the time people were due to start showing up, everything had been set up, the place looked presentable, and the pizza had gotten here in time for Kitty to box up a couple pieces for Lucky already, because shut up, that's why.

Well that backfired spectacularly. "No."

Just...no.

"C'mon, Stiles," Derek replied, leaning into his personal space. "I know you've been dying to see it."

"You're a horrible person," Stiles said, making what would likely be a failed attempt at pushing Derek away. "Awful, horrible fake boyfriend."

"You too, moon pie," Derek shot back, swaying slightly because he could be polite. Sort of.

"I am a joy to be around, how dare you." A complete and utter joy. "I'm going to make you regret wanting to go to that movie, mark my words."

"Like to see you try." Seriously, guys. You keep escalating this game of gay chicken.

Everybody in this room would be receiving a wedding invitation in a few years because of gay chicken, it was true.

"You really don't think I can make you miserable?" he asked.

Embossed invitations. With ribbon.

Derek gave him a look. Because Stiles didnt have the murderous instincts to be like his last girlfriend.

"Oh I'm going to enjoy giving you your gifts." Why did that sound like a threat?

Oh right, because for them presents were weapons rather than something that meant affection. Even if this was sort of affectionate in an teasing, odd, codependent sort of way.

They had so many layers for two idiots.

"And you're going to love what I get you." Love it or die.

Stiles smiled and reached up to pat Derek on the cheek. Just to be a jerk. "I'm sure I will, pumpkin."

There were a lot of people at this party, you couldn't physically assault him so there.

Assault? Perish the thought! Instead, he wrapped an arm around Stiles waist. Like a good boyfriend. If you ignored the constipated look and forced smile. "Find a suit for our date."

"Ugh you suck." That meant he was going to have to call Peter again. Calling Peter was the worst, Derek! "Wait, does that mean you're going to wear a suit too?"

"Yes." AND HE WOULD LOOK DAPPER TOO.

"I'm having a hard time picturing that," Stiles admitted. "I've never seen you in anything outside of your usual leather jacket and overly tight jeans uniform."

"Will you stop talking about my jeans?" You're giving people the wrong idea, Stiles! Yes. You are. Not the guy with his arm still around you.

If there was a time to give people the right idea it had long since past. And it would never be coming back again. Stiles barely even noticed Derek had an arm around him, that's how wrong the idea already was.

"I'm concerned for your well being!" he insisted. "You can't possibly enjoy walking like that."

"I walk just fine." Like a cowboy after a hard ride. Wait, that wasn't the right mental image. Like a sad rodeo clown after a hard ride. There we go. "Stop focusing on this."

This meaning his junk.

"You walk like a doofus." After a hard ride, yes. "But fine, no more focusing on your ridiculous pants."

Stiles looked down at the arm around his waist. "Mr. Barton is gonna kick your ass if he sees you groping me."

Derek looked both offended and disturbed by the concept of groping Stiles. That took skills to accomplish. "Mr. Barton will have to deal with Kitty if he wants to attack me."

HE WAS USING THIS FOR EVIL.

"Gonna hide behind Kitty, huh?" Stiles teased. "I probably would too."

"You definitely would." Don't kid yourself, Stiles.

"Is that supposed to be an insult?" he asked. "I thought you'd appreciate me making an attempt to avoid danger."

Ignore Derek's little smirk at that, if you will. "Can't I do both?"

Goddammit, Derek, don't give Stiles genuine displays of emotion, even if it was at his expense. "Fine. I'll allow it. But only because I'll find myself in danger and disappoint you soon enough."

Mostly because Derek found completely normal situations like dates to be dangerous.
