throughaphase | MHA #10- Saturday evening

With the way things had been going for everyone over the last few weeks, Kitty and Allie had decided it might be good to have a small, semi-quiet apartment party with friends where nothing traumatic happened and they could have fun.

Aaand then Kitty got in from California too late yesterday to get much of anything done so a lot of today was spent cleaning, shopping, and finding some game off the Internet, because with the group they'd invited, it might be good to have something to focus on rather than just glaring at people across the room. Which they'd probably do anyway, but at least it wouldn't be their whole night.

By the time people were due to start showing up, everything had been set up, the place looked presentable, and the pizza had gotten here in time for Kitty to box up a couple pieces for Lucky already, because shut up, that's why.

So Allie had had an interesting morning. She didn't think it would be wise to leave Eponine alone while she was obviously still weak, so she'd brought her along to the party.

Since Eponine had tucked herself into a corner to people watch and seemed okay for the moment, Allie was going to enjoy herself for the evening.

Surprisingly for her, she didn't find a corner to lurk in and instead took a seat on the couch.

"So who's your friend?" Kitty asked, because she hadn't seen the new girl anywhere ever yet and thought she should ask before saying hi.

"She came across the Causeway this morning," Allie explained. "She was hurt pretty badly. I found her and then this other girl, a Healer named Karla, turned up. She fixed her wounds and I brought her home with me since she had now where else to go."

"Her name's Eponine."

"...You've had a more interesting day than me," Kitty decided.

"For a change. Usually my nights are pretty damn boring," she replied. "This town is incredibly quiet at night."

"How was your trip? Did you have fun with your friend?"

"It was a hell of a lot weirder than I expected," Kitty admitted. "But I got to see a few people, and I had a friend show up that I thought I'd never see again, so I'm happy. And apparently nothing exploded here while I was gone."

"So all is good in Kitty world," Allie smiled. "That's great. Now if we can just survive this Valentine's Day thing. It seems like it's a big deal. And after all the weird Christmas stuff that happened, I wonder if anything strange will happen this week."

"Wouldn't shock me. But surviving Valentine's Day isn't hard, as long as you're not one of those people who gets all depressed if you don't have someone on that specific day." Kitty had no patience for those people, no.

Allie spared a momentary thought for Zeke, once again wondering how he was and how he was settling into Eden. "Nope, not me. On my own and just fine with it."

"Good. Then you'll be fine for when all our food turns into candy hearts or whatever happens," Kitty told her.

"Hey," Kaidan greeted, once he'd finally peeled away from the wall. "Thanks for the invite."

Are you sure about that Kaidan? You might change your mind once the game starts.

"We figured people could use a fun night for a change," Allie replied with a smile. "I'm glad you came."

"It's not like I have a really booming social life," Kaidan said wryly.

"Mine's about as exciting. Although I did have some excitement this morning." She tilted her head towards Eponine's corner. "I found her this morning near the Causeway. I think she came across during the night."

"Another one of Fandom's stray orphans?" Kaidan hypothesized, glancing her way. "The island does have a habit of attracting people."

"Speaking as one of the stray orphans, that's not a bad thing."

Even though she still had things to do at home, Allie had come to the conclusion that she would never regret spending time on the island.

"Let's hope your friend's going to feel the same way," Kaidan said lightly.

His own feelings on being on the island were still ambivalent, though less negative now that he was regularly going out on missions again.

"We'll see. I think she's too confused at this point to feel much of anything. But she did like my books." So that was something at least.

Clint had seen Allie come in with another person, but he figured he'd see how she was doing first. "Hey, how's it going?" he asked, giving her a polite smile.

"Good. Quiet. Not such a bad thing," Allie replied. "How have you been? And how's your dog?"

"My dog's doing great," Clint said, instantly grinning. Someone was slightly attached to their mutt, oh yes. "It has been pretty nice and quiet, even with last weekend. Did you get any visitors?"

"My mother turned up on my doorstep," she said with a small smile. "It was unexpected. But good."

"That seems to be the consensus," Clint said. "Everyone seemed happy to see the people who showed up, which is nice."

"Not everyone was happy." Allie very deliberately did not look at a certain person in the room. "Well they were, but it just made things hurt again I think."

"Yeah, I guess if you're still getting over someone being gone, seeing them again could hurt," Clint said sympathetically. "But I think it'd be really nice if you had someone you didn't get to say goodbye to properly, 'cause then you'd have the chance."
