With the way things had been going for everyone over the last few weeks, Kitty and Allie had decided it might be good to have a small, semi-quiet apartment party with friends where nothing traumatic happened and they could have fun.

Aaand then Kitty got in from California too late yesterday to get much of anything done so a lot of today was spent cleaning, shopping, and finding some game off the Internet, because with the group they'd invited, it might be good to have something to focus on rather than just glaring at people across the room. Which they'd probably do anyway, but at least it wouldn't be their whole night.

By the time people were due to start showing up, everything had been set up, the place looked presentable, and the pizza had gotten here in time for Kitty to box up a couple pieces for Lucky already, because shut up, that's why.

Kaidan... wasn't much of a glarer; he was more of a be-awkward-at-parties kind of guy. That didn't mean he wasn't going to show up, though, wearing a grey Alliance t-shirt instead of his uniform for once.

He awkwarded by himself for a couple of moments before heading towards the pizza.

"Hey," Kitty greeted him with a smile. "I don't think I've met you yet." Which was something that should be remedied when he was in her apartment.

"Allie invited me," Kaidan offered. Then added, a beat later: "Lieutenant Commander Kaidan Alenko. I teach up at the school."

Oh, right. Offering a handshake, too.

"Kitty Pryde," she said, shaking his hand. "Bartender in town. Your intro's way better. Lieutenant Commander, huh?"

"Technically I'm here on outreach for the Systems Alliance," Kaidan explained. "You know - making nice with the unexplored territory." His mouth quirked wryly.

"We're unexplored territory?" she asked.

"Maryland isn't," Kaidan said. "The multiverse... that's a new one, y'know?"

"Yeah, I know," said she who'd had to learn about it super fast. "And this is definitely the best place to check all that out. Since, you know, everyone from everywhere is here..."

"Of course half the stuff I send back home gets redacted," Kaidan mused, then shook his head. "Anyway, that's me. Not all that interesting. How long've you been bartending here?"

"About a year and change," Kitty answered. "I manage Caritas. The one with the zombies?"

"I've been there once or twice," Kaidan said. "Kind of feels like treason, though - most of my friends here work at the Devil's Nest."

Well, 'most of'. All of. All of his two friends.

"Well, I go there just to bug Derek, and I've seen Eric in my place, so I think you can feel a little bit more okay about it," she told him.
