A costume shop on the mainland- Thursday afternoon

Since last year had actually worked out so well, Kitty had decided to drag Derek out to help her find a Halloween costume this year, too. Which, considering the last time they'd gone shopping he'd instituted a limit on how low her neckline could go, getting through costumes that got sluttier every year might be interesting.

"So just as a warning," Kitty said as they headed inside the shop to look, "if you find a sexy owl costume this year, you can just go ahead and put it back."

Kitty shot him an amused look before flipping through the first rack she saw. "I'll take your word for it, as I am clearly not up on current sexy owl trends."

"I thought that was the point of the holiday."

"Yes. Halloween is about scaring yourself and others, candy, and sexy owls," Kitty nodded, and pulled a costume out to show him. "Is it me?"

"Are you planning to spike the punch with wolfsbane?" Because that was a horrible hallucination there.

Years in Fandom now, and Kitty still assumed 'Rahne' when someone said 'wolfsbane' so that was confusing for a whole second.

"If I did, I might not have to answer the 'And what are you supposed to be?' question all night," Kitty said, putting the costume back.

Maybe a sexy ear of corn costume.

"What if I went for 'I'm not actually really trying here?'" Kitty asked, showing him another.

"And professional!" she said, putting it back. "And yet it's still better than that cop costume I found last time."

"How about we avoid things with 'sexy' in the title?"

"How about we avoid stupid things with 'sexy' in the title?" Kitty countered.

"Same thing." He held high hope for taste.

Kitty found and held up another costume as evidence of her point, because come on, this was pretty cute.

Derek just rolled his eyes. "At least it's not an animal."

"I did see a sexy lion back there," she said. "Come on, this is kind of adorable."

"No sexy animals." He made a face. "I hate Halloween."

At least no teenagers were holding a black light rave in the loft where people they knew died though. Because that would be tacky.

"No sexy animals," she agreed. "But sexy pirate is a possibility. Any thoughts about what you're gonna be?"

"Annoyed werewolf."

Boom. Done.

"Not a costume..." she sing-songed.

"Werewolf is a valid costume." And lifestyle choice.

"For people who aren't werewolves, sure," Kitty said. "I can't just say I'm going as a mutant."

"Until I have to for work, I'm not wearing a costume."

And he would murder you if you mentioned it to Eric.

"It's your party," Kitty pointed out.

"Mike's party," he corrected. "I just live there."
