A store on the mainland- Friday

The last time Kitty dragged Derek shopping with her, it was because it was kind of fun to torment him, yadda yadda yadda. This time, she was dragging him along because he'd actually been good with fashion advice and she didn't have a Rachel anymore, so... she'd been recast as a surly werewolf with bad conversation skills. Sorry, Derek.

"Remember, I'm just looking for a work outfit," she said as they walked into the store. "So this should probably be less eyeroll-inducing than the costumes."

"What's wrong with busy patterns?" Not that she tended towards them these days, but she was asking for a friend. Say, her younger self who'd been sort of a disaster here.

"You don't need to draw attention with them." It was a compliment. Kind of.

It sort of sounded like one, which was there was a slightly dubious-sounding, "Thanks," as she kept browsing. "I tend to stick to solids anyway. Things that are easy to mix and match."

For instance the shirt without a back could be paired with either plain leather pants or the ones with giant holes in the thighs with ease!

"Maybe a leather jacket." IT WAS HIS THING.

"I have one!" Kitty told him. "I used to live in Chicago. I am well-stocked in jackets and coats."

Derek made a noise of vague agreement concerning the jacket owning as he looked over the shirts. "Your boyfriend thinks I'm trying to get into your pants."

Great transition there, Derek!

It took Kitty a second to decide she did hear that right.

Okay, more than a second.

"...Wait, what?"

The top he held up was a very dark purple and boat neck. "Try this one."

She took it because it was cute even if it wasn't trampy enough for work, but said, "Go back to the Clint thing."

THEY WOULD FIND TRAMPY IN DUE TIME. Hope you like bustiers, Kitty.

Derek shrugged. Because people wanting into his tight, tight pants was something he wasn't really one to care about.

"You can't say something like that and start shrugging," Kitty told him. "Why do you think that?"

"Could have been the emphasis on you being his girlfriend during our last chat," Derek replied dryly.

[throughaphase]

Maybe it was a guy thing she wasn't getting. "So...?"

It really was.

Derek just gave her a look. "Guys don't do that unless they're feeling insecure about something," he said, picking another tasteful top. Because he was classy like that. And they needed to hit up the lingerie for what she was probably thinking.

Yes! Lingerie would totally help this!

"He has no reason to feel insecure here," she stated... taking the top. Look, there was a reason she took him on these trips, okay.

"I'm not actually gay, you know." Derek wasn't helping. Then again, he didn't want to help. So.

....Huh. Not the assumption she'd been operating under, but.

"I didn't think you were," she totally and completely lied.

[justlurkinghere]

"Lie." He tossed another shirt at her. There, he was done with his contribution for this leg of the trip.

"It is not!" she lied again. "Why would you think I thought that, anyway?"

"Stiles." Thanks, Stiles. Thanks a bunch.

That was not a helpful sentence, Derek. "What about him?"

"Apparently lead you to think I'm having orgies while making him dogsit."

[throughaphase]

Kitty's mouth opened and closed a few times as she tried to come up with a defense for that.

"Well, you did let some naked guy wear your underwear," she said finally, because guess what, there was no defense.

[justlurkinghere]

"Because it was that or let him stay naked," Derek shot back. "He was different like me, not someone I was screwing."

"Oh. Well, that wasn't information that I had," she said. Not that there was anything wrong with what she'd thought, in her opinion. "Sorry."
