Costume shop on the mainland- Monday afternoon

Another year, another hunt for a suitable costume. After her stuff was done for the day, Kitty and Irene set out for the costume store for some quality shopping time.

"Okay, I don't know about you," Kitty said as they walked in, "but I have no real idea of what I want yet."

This was how you ended up dressed as a giant banana, probably.

"Comparatively," Irene agreed, tilting her head at the costume. "What d'you suppose the harness is meant for?"

Because that thing would not hold under any duress. Expert opinion.

"Kinky comments?" Kitty suggested, putting it back. "I seriously think most of the really bad stuff is made specifically for people to use bad one-liners as icebreakers."

"But who the hell does that work on?" Irene asked, her nose wrinkling in distaste as she considered another horrifying option (http://www.yandy.com/ANITA-SEDATIVE.php). "I'm not sure I've ever been that drunk, you know?"

Kitty stared. "Oh god why. You know all that enters someone's head when they see that has to be 'this way to crazy girl stalking,'" she said. "Also how do you do anything in that?"

"I suppose it necessitates that you have a buddy," Irene said, smiling a little. "So that's the opening! 'Hey, babe, do you need me to pour jelly shots into your mouth for you all night, seeing as how you have no hands?' And other romantic little meet-cutes like that."

"Yes, 'romantic,'" Kitty nodded. "Oh what the hell is this."

Feast your eyes on the Viking costume.

Irene was just going to stare for a long, long moment.

That seems historically accurate," she said finally. "Though thank goodness those studs are where they are." Otherwise that was very deceptive fabric.

"I'm totally trying this on just to scare Clint," Kitty decided.

"For a given value of 'scare,'" Irene said, arching a brow. "Is he dressing up, too? Something sleeveless, I'd hope."

"He has in the past. I'll see if I can talk him into the arm thing," she said. "Personally I think he should just always skip sleeves, but that's just me."

"If this (http://www.yandy.com/Fleece-Shark-Costume.php) sort of idiocy is on the table for us," Irene decided, holding out the offensive (but sort of cozy-looking, at least) garment, "then I think sleeves should be prohibited in his case, yes. Only fair."

"That'd be sort of cute if it was like, a novelty hoodie you could buy on Think Geek," Kitty said. "As a Halloween costume, I don't understand. Sexy Shark?"

"Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water?" Irene intoned, shrugging. "'Sexy' and 'dangerous' normally pair together well, but I'm not sure this is the best way to achieve that combination."

"You want to go 'sexy' and 'awful?'" Kitty asked, pulling out a men's costume finally.

And thus ensuring the canon banana costume would not be done this year.

"...anyone who thinks that's sexy needs to be checked by a professional," Irene decided, horrorstruck. "As though the concept itself wasn't awful enough, look at the face you have to walk around with all evening."

"At least no one would know it's you?" Kitty tried.

"Which is absolutely an advantage over some (http://www.yandy.com/Exclusive-Sexy-French-Fries-Costume.php) of these," Irene decided, frowning. "I'd never be able to show my face in public again."

"It looks like the top is molting," Kitty said.

Well now Irene had to try and peel a bit of french fry-top down, now. "I feel like people'd just be coming up to me all night to do that."

"See, it's all about weird pickup lines," Kitty decided. "This one's actually sort of cute. If a little pandering to my archer boyfriend."

"Pandering's not always a bad thing," Irene said, actually considering the costume. "I do like the...wristy things." Like she knew what that was called.

"I think those might be the costumey versions of wrist guards?" Kitty guessed. "We can put it on the possibilities list."

Meaning she'd try it on along with the Viking costume that she was going to have to get for Reasons.

"I suppose I should start putting together one of those," Irene mused, "rather than just making fun of things." But it was so easy. "I mean, I wouldn't mind wearing something like this (http://www.yandy.com/Evening-Enchantress-Costume.php) one? Though there's something terribly uncreative about being a witch for Halloween."

"But a hot witch," Kitty pointed out. "That's actually kind of a cool costume."

"I do look nice in green," Irene admitted, and that decided it because now she was going to just have to try that one on. "We ought to come back on the first and just snatch up everything we like at half price. You know, for non-Halloween reasons."

Whatever those may be.
