MHA #10- Saturday morning

Kitty had had a great week. Getting to spend a ridiculous amount of time in bed with a hot boyfriend and not having anything to feel bad about at the end of it? She was all for that. That said, it was a relief to wake up with said hot boyfriend and feel normal again. What could she say, she liked her brain and liked having it not fogged up constantly. Also, she sort of needed a break, ow.

In the name of doing normal, non-sexy things, Kitty was starting with breakfast. She'd never really tried to cook cook to know or care if she was any good at it, but she could pour pancake mix into a pan and flip it when it was solid. She could also put up coffee and call it multitasking. And okay, part of her good mood had to do with the last few days, but that didn't mean she wasn't ruling this morning like a champ.

"At least you're not a Summers," Petra pointed out, slipping past her into the apartment.

"Tell me about it," Kitty said, closing the door and looking her over. "So... what am I missing here?"

And because she was from the X-Men, it didn't strike her that this was just that thing that happened in Fandom rather than a kid from the future showing up and pulling her into some big plot.

"Phoenix Force," Petra said, waggling her fingers. "Oh! Or do you mean how I got here? Because I was hoping you'd know that one."

"I... don't. Go back to the part about the Phoenix Force?"

She was going to remember this when she eventually got to AvX. Just saying.

"It does stuff sometimes." Annoying stuff.

"Yeah, and I'm realizing I might not want to think about that stuff right now." Because weird. So weird. So, so weird. "What's your name?"

"Petra. Petra Pryde-Hale." Yes, let that one sink in.

"...Oh god what."

"I told you, the Phoenix Force."

"But Hale?"

And that wasn't even getting into her first name, because that was kind of a gut-punch that was mitigated only by the omgwtfDerek.

"Oh my god, I know," Petra whined. "He's all 'werewolf this' and I'm so not interested in that, you know?"

"Oh, good." Your canon worried Kitty, Derek. "So are you a mutant?"

Was it weird to be curious? Probably not, right?

"Um, duh. X-Men and all." Petra, stop being mean to your alternate reality, past mother.

Nooooooooo. Considering her current reluctant freelancing there, she didn't really want to hear that from her kid. Even if she was a future, CLEARLY ALTERNATE UNIVERSE kid. With Derek. And the Phoenix Force? God, she was going to have such a headache later.

"Well, I don't know these things," Kitty pointed out.

Petra sighed because she was a teenager dealing with a parent. "So, this is even weirder now, huh?"

"I mean, it could be worse," Kitty assured her. "You could be here to warn me to prevent a dystopian anti-mutant future."

She paused.

"You're night, right?"

"I'm not Cable." God.

"I'm just saying, it happens," Kitty said. "You really don't know how you got here?"

"There was probably a portal." There were always portals.

"Of course," Kitty said, and thought about where she'd heard that before. "Ohhh, it's the day after prom."

"...is that a code for something?"

"Kind of maybe," Kitty said. "I guess this happens, where kids from different timelines show up for the weekend. So, at least you're not stuck here or anything."

She sort of thought Petra would be okay with not spending more than a weekend with a 20-year-old parent who spent all her time "WHAT"ing over the Derek/Phoenix Force thing.

"I thought it was weird with the X-Men." She was with the X-men, Kitty. Did she mention that enough?

"Did I never try to just yank you away from all that?" Kitty wondered.

"Yeah, that so doesn't work when you're a mutant," Petra replied, holding up a hand that slowly faded to invisible.
