MHA #10- Saturday morning

Kitty sort of thought that maybe if she'd stayed at college, turning twenty might mean something to her somehow. But when she was living here and had been managing a business for a year and hadn't actually felt like a teenager for years anyway, it was just another year. At least it'd make everyone feel better to say her boyfriend was in his thirties without having to affix a "-teen" onto any words concerning her?

Her grand plans for the day involved not going in to work, not even in the daytime when she was just working in the office, not working out because it was her birthday and she didn't have to today, dammit, and ice cream, though she hadn't decided what its full involvement might be yet. Also, apparently phone calls. Turns out that when you gave the X-Men a way to contact you after cutting yourself off for a year, the ones you were close to made a point to do things like call you when you turned a year older. That part, Kitty would admit, was kind of nice.

With no one to talk to at the moment, Kitty curled up on the sofa to do some channel surfing, half-expecting the perfect movie to be on somewhere because it was her day and she was pretty sure that was how things were supposed to work.

Clint had never been very good at the boyfriend thing. Maybe it was his issues, or maybe it was his inability to pick up on social cues, or maybe he was just cursed with making terrible choices all the time--or maybe it was all of the above. But Kitty was too awesome to him for him to screw things up with, so he was trying the best he could. Sure, they'd had dinner together as a collective birthday thing, but she came to his place on his birthday, so he figured returning the favor made sense. With the birthday cupcake he'd gotten in mind, Clint had procured a pint of ice cream and a bottle of chocolate syrup before heading over to Kitty's apartment and knocking on the door.

Oh, and he'd left his shirt at home. You were welcome, Kitty.

Kitty could kind of figure who it was, because she didn't really get visitors and had a whole one neighbor who she might be annoying with TV noise or something, so she got up and opened the door-

"Oh my god," she said, laughing. "Happy birthday to me!"

That was definitely the kind of reaction Clint had been hoping for. "I heard you're one year closer to be being able to drink in your own bar," he said. "That sounded like something that deserved celebrating."

Kitty stepped back to let him inside, where there was heat. "And shirtlessness? It also deserved shirtlessness?" she asked, not having stopped smiling yet.

"Well, you're special," Clint pointed out. If he made a noise at the feel of the heat, well, it kind of sucked that their birthdays were in January. "And I, of course, am a gift."

"You definitely are," she said, peeking into the hallway to see if maybe he'd left his shirt out there before closing the door. "Did you walk all the way here like that?"

"In my defense, it seemed like a better idea before I got outside. Thankfully, global warming is on full effect so it's not so bad outside. Still, if you want to warm me up..." he teased.

"This might be the best thing a guy's ever done for me," she said, kissing him hello and wrapping her arms around him to try and warm him up with her hands. "And I promise I'll bring you soup if you get sick from this."

It should be noted that she had had a guy walk to the UK for her, but as that ended in him putting her boyfriend at the time into a wheelchair, that sort of took away all the good things about it. So that didn't count.

"I won't get sick. I'm strong," Clint promised as he slipped an arm around her in return. "And guys have clearly been failing you if this is the best."

"You are so right," Kitty admitted. "But trust me, this is fantastic. Did you bring things, too?"

"Ice cream?" Clint said, hoping that was a worthy offering. "It's one of the ones with different flavors, since I wasn't positive about what you'd like."

[throughaphase]

"You read my mind," she said. "Except I was thinking I was going to have to go out to get it, so this officially makes you the best."

[so_hawkward]

Clint grinned at her, although he couldn't help but look a little bashful. "Have I improved your birthday, or have you been having a good day?"

"You always improve my day," she told him. "I've been lazy and taking to old teammates all morning. Which is a good thing."

[so_hawkward]

"That sounds nice. It's pretty sweet they all remembered your birthday," Clint said. "I didn't interrupt any of that, did I?"

[throughaphase]

"They better remember my birthday, I was their favorite." That wasn't far off, actually. "You're not interrupting anything but channel surfing and I kinda put you above that."

[so_hawkward]

"So you were planning on a day of nothing?" Clint said, partly teasing.

[throughaphase]

"TV and potential ice cream could be something," Kitty grinned. "...But yeah, pretty much."

[so_hawkward]

"Now your potential ice cream is real ice cream," Clint said, offering her the pint. "Do you want to get bowls or should we just get spoons and go for it?"

[throughaphase]

"We just go for it," she said, taking the ice cream and backing towards the kitchen to get some spoons. "I'm also not doing dishes on my birthday."

[so_hawkward]

"I figured you'd pick that option," Clint said as he followed her. "Why dirty dishes when you don't have to?"

[throughaphase]

"And spoons are utensils so they don't really count," Kitty said, handing him one. "I'm so glad you get me."

[so_hawkward]

"I'm trying," Clint said genuinely. "It helps that you're... I don't know, 'normal' isn't really the right word. Down to earth? Sensible?"

"I hear you calling me not normal," Kitty teased, even though she knew what he meant.

"When you walk through walls to get from place to place, you lose the ability to classify as normal," Clint insisted. "But that's okay, because normal would just be boring."
