25 Unicorn Street- Wednesday

Kitty could tell you how many days old Lexi was (fifteen) but unless she was looking at her phone, she was sort of lost on the day of the week. Or usually what time of day it was, since going to sleep and staying asleep all night was probably not a thing that was happening ever again. She changed what loungewear she was wearing every day? Was that a good marker of time?

And yet she still had stuff to do. Work work in addition to other stuff that had to get done around the house and all the baby stuff. She wasn't back to bartending yet, but she was still doing the paperwork side of business running, and so she had her laptop open while Lexi laid on the couch next to her, though the baby kept taking most of her attention. "I thought you were supposed to be helping me work," Kitty told her. "Pick up the slack, kid."

True. Hey, remember when we were betting on them hooking up? Simpler times...

She turned to Lexi and said, "You don't get to hook up with boys in bars until Mommy and Daddy are too old to care."

Mildly less concerning times. I'm surprised they haven't managed to burn down half the island yet.

He would take some exception to their relationship, whatever it was, if they did, mind.

That would be worrying for so many reasons...

Given the population of this island, I think I would honestly mostly just be impressed if they were to get that far.

Two humans that were skilled but, ostensibly, baseline, versus mutants, Jedi, vampires... who all considered the place home.

I'm not actually sure what we're talking about now.

Blame sleep deprivation for all.

Maybe that's for the best, too. You sure I can't get you anything? Is coffee a thing you can do, now?

Poor Kitty.

On one hand, they had coffee here. On the other, different coffee...

I could definitely place a super sugary Perk order. I can't drink it for an hour, but that just gives it time to cool down!

And then, I made is stop for coffee on the way home from the hospital.

I can appreciate those priorities. You place the order, I'll deliver. I spent a year without caf just by being stranded here, and I at least had other options.

He was pretty damn sure he wouldn't have been able to do it. Ah. Even if he could do it.

Kitty sent through the order at the Perk, and a moment later came back with, Order sent. I maybe underestimated how precious caffeine really is.

It loves you and allows you to function, huh?

Kanan was already on his way toward the Perk.

And now I'm a man on a mission. I'll be around in a few with that life-giving drink for you.

And for that, Kanan, you earned seven heart emojis.

Awww, Kanan felt appreciated. He sent a thumbs-up back, and a few minutes later he was coming around to knock on the door, balancing a drink tray with three drinks in it - he'd asked the barista to make another of whatever Kitty had ordered so she could keep it and reheat it later, and then he'd gotten something for himself - and a bag with some assorted pastries in it, too.

"Special delivery?"

Keeping an eye on Lexi- maybe someday she wouldn't be paranoid, she went over to the door to open it and let him in.

"Hello thank you."

Kanan was reasonably certain that paranoia was Kitty's life now. He wouldn't blame her one bit, either.

"Hello you're welcome," he replied, waving the bag at her with a grin. "Sweetened the deal for you while I was there. Because who doesn't like surprise junk food?"

... He hoped she liked surprise junk food.

"Thank you so much," she said, holding out her hand for either the coffee or the bag, she was not picky. "You know, when people kept offering to bring stuff over, I actually thought we might not need it? That was dumb of me."

"Hey, your entire lifestyle is going through some major readjustment," Kanan pointed out. "There's no shame in leaning on people for a while while you settle in, you know."

He passed her the bag so that he could pull his own coffee from the tray.

"Doubled your order so you've got another one to reheat for later," he added. "Not that I mind making a coffee run into a regular thing, either. Just figured there's only so much of my face you probably want hanging in through your door every day while you're trying to raise an infant."

"You are always welcome. With a heads up first, because sometimes things are insane," Kitty admitted, taking the bag. "Life is different."

"I can only imagine," Kanan admitted, pulling his own coffee from the tray and taking a mouthful.

Okay, 'coffee' was a very loose word for the contents of that cup. It was peppermint season again.

"Don't worry, I wouldn't just swing by unannounced. Knowing my luck, I'd end up here somewhere during one of those two-hour stretches where you're actually getting rest. And then you'd have to kill me, and then I couldn't bring you coffee like this. A tragedy all around."

"Resting usually means trying to get things done," Kitty admitted, putting the bag down so that she could pick up the baby. She was fine, but Kitty worried she'd get bored if left too long when she was awake. "It didn't feel like there were a lot of things to do until you're doing them around the schedule of someone who can't be reasoned with. Like now, she's supposed to be helping me, but her work ethic sucks."

Lexi had no comment.

"No accounting for the work ethic of infants, I guess," Kanan mused, setting the tray of drinks down next to the bag and making his way over to wave a little hello to Lexi. "Better get on that, kid. Your mom has paperwork to do, you know."

Lexi blinked at him.

"She'll get more fun, I promise," Kitty told him.

"She's plenty fun already," Kanan declared. Because Kanan had maybe a grand total of twenty minutes of experience with her in person while she was concious and doing tiny new baby things, and the novelty was probably never going to wear off anyway. "I mean, she didn't take one look at me and start screaming, I'm going to take that as a good sign."

She was still a tiny bit too young to really start making strange yet, Kanan.

"She hasn't cried much for no reason. So far," Kitty added, fully aware that that could and probably would change. "Also her eyes only focus really well at a certain distance."

"I'll try not to take it too personally if eye contact isn't her highest priority just yet," Kanan promised. He sipped his drink. "She's got more important things to do, like developing object permanence. Right, Lexi?"

That would also be a while, Kanan.

"Right now we're working on her lifting her own head up," Kitty said. "And learning to suck it up and deal even though she doesn't like tummy time. God, the things that come out of my mouth now."
