A costume shop on the mainland- Monday afternoon

There weren't many things Kitty outright missed about her old life, but having girlfriends was one of them. If she was trying to do something like find a Halloween costume, for instance, she didn't really have anyone here she could just call up to go shopping and tell her something looked horrible. And while she was sure Clint wouldn't mind seeing her try stuff on, it was probably still too early in the relationship to make her hold her purse and bore him, and he'd get to be surprised with what she actually picked.

So naturally, she ended up dragging Derek. Both because it was both fun to torment him a little and because she thought it a safe bet that anyone who made Stiles dogsit while he had naked guys in his house who ended up wearing his underwear wasn't going to be checking her out. Ahem.

"This won't take too long, I promise," she said, probably lying, as she opened the door to the store.

Kitty stared at it for a moment. "Oh god, why would someone do that?"

That would be why Derek held it out to her for trying on. With all the innocence he could muster while being a bag of dicks.

"I'm sure it looks better on."

"I'm beginning to regret bringing you along," Kitty said, but took it anyway. Sometimes trying on the bad stuff was more fun anyway.

[justlurkinghere]

"You and me both," Derek muttered, flipping through the racks idly. It was better than nothing else.

And hey, it didn't involve lurking up on people. It was almost normal.

[throughaphase]

"Hey," said Kitty after a moment, holding up what she thought might be the stupidest costume known to man. "Think this would make me look hippy?"

[justlurkinghere]

"Classy." He was no Peter Hale, so you'll have to deal without the comments concerning your skin tone.

Derek sighed, thinking back to interactions with his sister. "You'd need something up top to balance it out," he deadpanned.

AND THEN SUDDENLY ERICA'S POST-BITE MAKEOVER MADE PERFECT SENSE TO EVERYONE.

[throughaphase]

THIS WAS WHY SHE BROUGHT YOU, DEREK.

"I'm so trying it on," she decided, also swiping a pirate hat from a shelf just because she felt like wearing it. "What are you going as?"

She thought she knew the answer, but she was going to check anyway.

Derek just sighed. "I don't dress up."

BECAUSE HIS PARENTS ARE DEEEEAAAAAD.

She did know the answer!

"You should," she said, grabbing a couple more things to try on that weren't completely horrible. "I mean, we're in a costume shop..."

"I'm not wearing something stupid because other people want an excuse to get drunk and hump each other in public." Derek Hale: BUZZKILL.

[throughaphase]

"So wear something scary," she countered.

[justlurkinghere]

"Same thing." Derek was the most awesome friend ever, wasn't he?

"Once I find a costume for me, I'm looking for one for you," Kitty decided.

You don't want her doing that, Derek.

"I won't be wearing it."

HE REFUSED YOUR FUN.

[throughaphase]

"Oh, come on! Please?"

Yes, she really just tried that.

[justlurkinghere]

"No." He tossed another costume at her to try on. Because he had class, damn it.

[throughaphase]

"Okay, that's actually sort of cute," she said, looking at it. "And you should just try stuff on and maybe you'll like something."

[justlurkinghere]

DAMN RIGHT IT WAS CUTE.

"Yeah. Loads of fun," Derek said, flicked at the rubber wolf mask of the nearest men's costume.

[throughaphase]

"I'm going to try these on," she told him. "You should start picking stuff out for you while I'm doing that."

What else were you gonna do in that time? Really.

[justlurkinghere]

Glare. Brood over all the survivor's guilt he had? Maybe shoo an over eager employee away from 'helping' him find what size costume he could wear.

It was a thing.

"Still not happening," Derek replied.

[throughaphase]

"Stop being not fun!" she called back, disappearing into a dressing room.

HIS LIFE WAS PAIN.

Ooo, leather jacket!

WAIT, NO. FOCUS, DEREK.

Derek rolled his eyes again, pointedly ignoring the hopeful salesclerk's looks at him. At least he didn't have to hold a purse...

It took Kitty a bit to come back out, because she was doing a thing. When she came out, it was pretty much to show off that the owl costume looked just as wtfy as it did on on the rack.

"I'll give it one thing: it's way stupider than it is slutty," she said from under the mask.

"Probably better than your other option."

Derek was so nice.

[throughaphase]

She frowned at him. "Funny. Go find stuff already. I gave you one thing to do..."

Well okay he probably couldn't see all of the frown because of the owl mask....
