A year ago Kitty had remembered being pleasantly surprised that she and Clint had made it to an anniversary, since it didn't seem like it was anything either one of them had been very good at before. This year it had almost managed to sneak up on her, because she hadn't had any doubt that they'd get to this point. So, there was that.

Clint had said he wanted to cook dinner, and while Kitty wasn't sure how that was going to go considering his usual insistence that he didn't cook, she agreed. She came over after picking up wine and something for dessert, and let herself in. "So how's it going?" she called.

Clint set the pizzas down on the counter and gave Kitty a funny look. "I don't know if we need to get that fancy... unless you want to. I don't think I've ever eaten pizza with utensils."

It wasn't like, ungodly pizza from Chicago or anything. No one's anniversary deserved that.

HEY NOW.

"We can skip the utensils," she smiled. "Just putting the option out there for fanciness."

"Hey, I think there are actual wine glasses in one of the cabinets. That's fancy, right?" Clint said.

"That is. And the fact that you have wine glasses means you can still defy expectations after all this time," Kitty teased.

Clint laughed and grabbed some plates--real plates for them. "I don't think we ever used them, but I'm sure they're fine," he said. "It's nice to pretend to be civilized sometimes."

"Does this mean I can use that reasoning to get you to use mugs sometimes?" She was so not serious. If he ever stopped that she would think something was wrong.

"I use mugs sometimes. When I've got a load of dishes ready for the dishwasher and one more won't hurt it," he said. "I'm reserving water. It's environmental."

"You know, in all the time I never knew you were a conservationist," Kitty said.

[so_hawkward]

"That's what the bow is for too. No electricity, very safe for the ozone," Clint said, smirking. He handed Kitty a plate and motioned to the pizzas. "Ladies first."

"Ooh, chivalrous," she said, opening a box to take a couple slices. "Is it wrong that I really like that we do things low-key?"

"I don't think that's wrong at all. And we certainly take enough long distance trips to foreign countries to not be low-key all the time," he insisted.

"We are quite the globetrotters," Kitty said, and stepped aside to let him get at the pizza. "I actually get to travel places and see it without people trying to kill me. Most of the time. It's very cool."

Clint grabbed two slices of pizza, and then went ahead and grabbed a third. "Only most of the time. Our next trip should involve no danger."

"Yeah, we need to make up for Japan. Something nice and calm, with zero ninjas," Kitty said, taking a bite of her pizza.

"If it was winter, I'd say the beach, but it's still pretty nice here," Clint said. "I'm sure we can come up with something fun and relaxing. We always do." It was nice to have a girlfriend who wanted to go places with him, to be honest.

[throughaphase]

"It's winter in the Southern Hemisphere," Kitty said thoughtfully. "And there's always old standbys like Chicago."

[so_hawkward]

"Traveling within the same country? I don't know if that's allowed for us anymore," Clint teased. "We'd have to go before it got really cold."

[throughaphase]

"Which for Chicago might be October." Sigh, Midwest weather and lake effects.

[so_hawkward]

"Good thing it's August then," Clint said. "We'd have plenty of time to plan something."

[throughaphase]

"Exactly. Get settled with the new semester and all, and we can make a weekend out of it or something," Kitty said. "Ooh, and the Cubs season does end in September..."

[so_hawkward]

"You want to go to a baseball game?" Clint asked, sounding surprised. "That wasn't what I expected to be high on your list."

[throughaphase]

"...Oh my god, did you not know this about me? I need to step up my fan game." In her defense, last summer was pretty terrible and baseball was not a huge priority. "Cubs fan for life here."

[so_hawkward]

"Well, it could be worse, you could be a Yankees fan," Clint said with a laugh.

[throughaphase]

"That would never happen," Kitty said seriously. "I swear, next year, my boys are gonna win it all."

Sigh.

[You saw nothing.]

"Isn't that about as likely as, I don't know, Logan becoming a peacenik?" Clint said. "Like, end times kind of thing?"

It was a good thing he was cute.
