A year ago Kitty had remembered being pleasantly surprised that she and Clint had made it to an anniversary, since it didn't seem like it was anything either one of them had been very good at before. This year it had almost managed to sneak up on her, because she hadn't had any doubt that they'd get to this point. So, there was that.

Clint had said he wanted to cook dinner, and while Kitty wasn't sure how that was going to go considering his usual insistence that he didn't cook, she agreed. She came over after picking up wine and something for dessert, and let herself in. "So how's it going?" she called.

"Isn't that about as likely as, I don't know, Logan becoming a peacenik?" Clint said. "Like, end times kind of thing?"

It was a good thing he was cute.

Kitty frowned at him. "They have a very good base for a team, okay? Next year, watch out."

"Well I'll be watching at least once, from the sound of it," he said. "What else might you want to do?"

"Pizza. Always pizza," Kitty replied.

Clint made a face at that and looked down at his own pizza. "Seriously? I might not be let back into New York for that kind of transgression."

"I will make it up to you in dirty ways," Kitty promised. "Though I should not have to, because Chicago pizza is amazing. This is fact."

"Oh, you poor confused girl. It's okay, I still love you," Clint promised.

"If we ever have kids for real, they're going to be raised as Chicago pizze-eating Cubs fans," Kitty decided. "I call dibs."

"Great, I'm going to have to check Lexi if she comes back," Clint said. "She should get to treat all pizzas equally until she's old enough to pick on her own."

"She can pick when she's eighteen," Kitty nodded. "At eighteen she can go to college, start talking to boys, and choose which pizza she likes."

[so_hawkward]

"Uh, she can go to college and choose pizza. No boys," Clint said, shaking his head. "Boys are dicks. She's gotta wait until she's like, 30 and guys her age are sort of human. It takes us a while to catch up."

"Oh, god. What if she's like me and starts dating 30-year-olds when she's eighteen?"

Well, it would be karma.

Clint made a face at that, and sighed. "I guess we couldn't say no? But he'd need to pass our tests. Very stringent tests," he said.

"I want to hear about these tests," Kitty said, putting down her plate to get the wine glasses.

"Well, there'd be an initial background check, obviously. Look the guy up in SHIELD's database to see if he shows up on any kind of radar," Clint said. "And I'm sure some of the computer people would love to track down every piece of social media he's ever put on the internet. We might have to draw the line at a blood test, but I'm not ruling it out."

"Oh, I can do the computer stuff easy," Kitty said. "And if we're talking at least eighteen years into the future, I assume some government agency or another will already have everybody's blood samples for some nefarious reason or another."

[so_hawkward]

"Awesome, so we can just tap into that," Clint said. "Of course, there'll also be the standard sit down with you and me and him where he explains exactly what his plans are for our precious daughter, as well as his entire future."

[throughaphase]

"Let me guess, with your bow right there on the table?" Kitty said.

"And the quiver, we can't forget that," Clint said.

"Dammit. Now I'm sad we don't have an eighteen-year-old," Kitty said. "This sounds awesome. For us, anyway."

"It's something to look forward to. You know, in the future," Clint said, trying not to sound awkward about it.

A year ago that would have been terrifying to hear, but Kitty wasn't really freaked out by it. "Yep," she nodded. "We're gonna be awesome."
