Kitty thought Clint's first meeting with her dad had gone well. She was sure she'd be fielding questions about the age difference, but she knew from when he met her mom that all she really had to do was change the subject and that'd be that. Otherwise she hadn't seen anything to worry about. She was sort of amazed it'd taken this long for this meeting to happen, but she and her parents had more or less all been in their own corners since she first went off to Westchester, so she was just glad that it had happened at all.

Now as they were walking back from her dad's to where they were staying (because she was not staying with her boyfriend at her dad's, nope), she reached for Clint's hand and said, "See, that wasn't so bad, was it?"

"Does your dad like it here?" Clint asked. "With that kind of awful background and all??"

"I don't know if he actually likes it here," she said. "It probably isn't always easy since he's not a mutant himself. I lived here with him for a few months at one point, and I think whether he likes it or not, he's at least trying to do some good here."

"So the apple didn't fall far from the tree, huh?"

Okay, maybe he was trying to keep Kitty in a good mood but shh, it wasn't a bad thing.

"...Guess not. I never really thought about that," Kitty realized. "Especially since the only reason he has to even be here is because of me."

Welcome to that particular issue.

"Wait, why does he have to be here?" Clint asked. "I mean, you're not here, so..."

[throughaphase]

"He doesn't have to be here," she amended. "He doesn't know about the X-Men stuff, but he was there for the whole brainwashing thing, and he's seen the sort of stuff we have to deal with. So he's here, helping. If it wasn't for that extra gene of mine, he wouldn't have to deal with any of it."

[so_hawkward]

"It's not like you asked for that extra gene of yours," Clint said. "And without that, you'd be a very different person. If I was your dad, I'd rather be here, and have you like you are."

[throughaphase]

"I love you for that sentiment," Kitty laughed, "but please never say 'if I was your dad' again."

[so_hawkward]

Clint laughed and gave Kitty a little nudge. "You know what I meant. I just can't imagine that he minds."

[throughaphase]

"I know. I got lucky that mutation or no, I've got supportive parents," Kitty said. "I'm not sure they'd be that supportive if I knew some of what I used those powers for..."

[so_hawkward]

"Yeeeah, they don't need to know about your superhero antics," Clint said. "Or, you know, you being too lazy to open doors. Not that I can blame you for that one."

[throughaphase]

"Oh, they know about that part. But it's not laziness, it's that doors are superfluous when you're me," Kitty reasoned. "Also phasing through is sooo much more fun."

[so_hawkward]

"Ah, I see. I'm glad you're staying solid right now," Clint said, giving Kitty's hand another squeeze.

[throughaphase]

"It's your fault for being so touchable," she told him, reaching over with her other hand to briefly pat his shoulder just because. "See? I just can't help myself."

[so_hawkward]

"I am not touchable," Clint said, looking a little embarrassed even as he grinned "Okay, maybe a little, but only because your dad isn't around."

[throughaphase]

"Yes. When my dad is around there is distance," Kitty agreed, and looked up. "Hey, want to get untouchable with me for a minute?"

[so_hawkward]

"Sure," Clint said, holding Kitty's hand tighter. "Is that going to make you more comfortable?"

[throughaphase]

"Oh, no, I just want to show off," she grinned. "Don't let go, okay? That'll get messy."

[so_hawkward]

Clint had to ask, sorry Kitty. "How messy?" he asked, holding her hand with both of his. "I don't remember talk of messy last time you showed me this."

[throughaphase]

"I can't keep you intangible unless there's physical contact. So... you'd go solid again," she said, stepping up into the air like she was climbing stairs, taking him with her.

[so_hawkward]

"Ooh, got it," Clint said, keeping himself close and grinning as he looked down. "You're lucky I don't have a fear of heights."

[throughaphase]

"Your love of heights is totally why I'm doing this," she smiled, stepping sideways when they'd gotten high enough so that they could solidify and stand on an empty roof. "See, better view."

[so_hawkward]

"Does this count as spoiling me? I think it might," Clint said, taking a deep breath as he looked out over the roof.

[throughaphase]

"I'll take spoiling," Kitty decided, slipping an arm around his waist. "See, I have good ideas."

[so_hawkward]

"You do. This is a really nice view," he said. He was trying to get a good picture of Genosha in his mind, in case things didn't stay this nice. "I'm glad we decided to get away."

[throughaphase]

"Me too," she said. "See, another part of my life you get to learn about."

[so_hawkward]

Clint smiled a little bashfully at that. "Does that mean you want to see another part of my life in return?"

[throughaphase]

"Ooh, now I do," Kitty smiled. "What's up next?"

Clint laughed and shook his head. "Nothing exciting, I think. Things have been quiet at home." Or Barney wasn't telling him things. "Which I have no complaints about, for the record."

[throughaphase]

"Yes, we like quiet over there," she agreed. "I don't need exciting."

[so_hawkward]

"Would you still want to go visit? Even if it's boring and Barney's cranky? 'Cause he's old and cranky," Clint pointed out.

"Definitely. I like it up there. And I can handle an old and cranky guy, I think," she said.
