Hawaii- Saturday

Last week had been really rough, and this week had been a test in not just bolting for a while because dealing with it was too hard. And while that hadn't been fun, Kitty was glad she hadn't just gone to Chicago for the week or whatever, because now she got a long weekend away with Clint. And it felt like a reward instead of running away. Whether she learned anything from this remained to be seen, but for now, it was good.

Besides, nothing bad could happen on a beach in Hawaii outside of volcanoes and Syfy movies. It just wasn't allowed.

"I don't remember whose idea this was," Kitty said from where she was happily laying, "so I just decided we're both geniuses for it."

"It worked before I liked you," Clint insisted. "It just works better now."

"Really? There must be some old missed opportunities there," she realized. "Oh, well, now that I know I'm sure I could find some ways to abuse that."

Not that she would.

"Hey, hey, not with me. Use that against other people," Clint said, flicking some sand at her like the grown adult he totally was.

Kitty tried not to laugh as she brushed some sand off of herself. "And here I thought you were supposed to be the mature one," she teased.

"Has it really taken you this long to realize you're the more mature one?" Clint said with a laugh. "I thought immaturity was part of my charm."

[throughaphase]

"There are a lot of things that are part of your charm," she said, flicking some sand back at him. Because they were supposed to be meeting in the middle on maturity here, thank you.

"So I'm a charming genius? I like the effect this trip is having," Clint said. "I wonder if anything awful is happening back in town."

[throughaphase]

"Nope. Nothing awful is allowed. And if it was happening, I'd kind of hope Stiles was texting me by now," she replied. "Nothing bad happens in paradise or while we're in paradise."

[so_hawkward]

"Hmmm, maybe we should extend our stay then." Clint smirked and leaned over to try to kiss Kitty on the cheek. "If it's for the good of everyone, I mean."

"Don't say that," she said, smiling at him. "Remember how I wanted to move to spring break?"

"At least Hawaii is the same country? We wouldn't be moving that far, all things considered," Clint offered.

"If we moved, we'd have to get jobs," Kitty said thoughtfully. "Island jobs. I'd have to make mai tais for tourists or something."

"And there's probably not much work for a guy with a bow and arrow here." Not that Clint couldn't find things to do, but still. "I suppose we'll have to settle for Fandom then. At least the weather there will probably start getting nicer soon."

"True. And then we have excuses still to go on vacation when bad things happen. Which is pretty frequent," Kitty mused.

"I still have to wonder if anyone knew what Fandom would be like when they sent me there," Clint said, stretching his arms above his head. "I can't believe it's been almost a year."

[throughaphase]

"I'm not even sure where that time went." And yet it was kind of weird to think about Fandom without Clint there. "They sent you there?"

That was information she hadn't had before.

Ah, the downside to relaxation, making Clint say things without thinking. "Uh, yeah. I mean, not in a bad way? Not entirely?"

Kitty turned more onto her side to face him. She could immediately come up with a reason or two someone might have sent him to Fandom, but she had to see where he went with this. "Which means...?"

"It wasn't a punishment," Clint said. He could see her turn towards him in his peripheral vision, but he was just going to keep staring at the sky for now. "I mean, they said outright that it wasn't a punishment for anything that happened with Loki. I just... needed to be away. I needed it and SHIELD needed it, and it was only supposed to be for a few months, and yet here I am." He shrugged a little. "You know, when we're not vacationing."

"Oh." She studied him for a moment, and said, "It hasn't been that bad, has it?"

That got a smile out of Clint, and he finally tilted his head towards her. "It's definitely been better than I expected."

"So it wouldn't be completely bad of me to say that I'm selfishly really glad I've gotten you for more than a few months?" she said.

"I don't think that's selfish at all. There's nothing selfish about wanting to be around me," Clint said with a smirk. "I'm glad it's been more than a few months too."

[throughaphase]

"That's because being with me is nothing but fun," Kitty laughed, knowing that was an exaggeration at least some of the time.

"Being with you is an awful lot of fun," Clint agreed. "I hope being with me is fun too."

[throughaphase]

"I do try to get as much time as possible with you," Kitty pointed out. "That's one of the reasons. One of the many." If she'd started off flattering, she might as well keep it up.

Clint certainly wasn't going to complain about being flattered. "Then all the extra time's been worth it. And I'm not in a hurry to go either." SHIELD could come up with their own reasons for that.

"It's probably a little sad how happy it makes me whenever I hear you say that," Kitty admitted.

"I don't think it's sad. I think it's nice you like to hear it, and I think it means we're doing stuff right," Clint insisted.

"Seriously, we deserve gold stars for this," Kitty decided. They even got through an actual, legitimate, week-long crisis without fighting.

Or fleeing, on Clint's part! "I think Hawaii's a pretty bright gold star. So is getting tan."

"So is getting you shirtless."

Because that was so difficult normally.

"And you in a bikini," Clint pointed out. "We're both very much winning right now."

[throughaphase]

"I'm glad we did things this way," Kitty said, and offered her hand for a high five.

Clint laughed and high fived her, then leaned in for a kiss. It was his version of celebrating themselves.

Kitty kissed him back, maybe a moment longer than necessary. "I like your way of doing this better."
