Rogue's house- Valle Soleada, CA- Wednesday late morning
With the immediate threat taken care of, Kitty's focus became getting Rachel back to the surface and getting her to safety. The others were still going after Bogan to take care of him once and for all, but after being assured that she wasn't needed for this part as far as she knew, Kitty opted to stay with her friend.
Rogue was apparently offering up her beach house a lot of people these days, so taking Rachel and Kitty in wasn't a big deal. Vange, the dragon mutant, was there, along with a human girl named Marie, but to be perfectly honest, Kitty was more focused on getting her former roommate settled, getting her clothes and a bed and trying to get her to sleep, which wasn't easy when a) she'd just had some pretty good trauma and b) she and Kitty kept slipping into girl talk. And for as much as she kept trying to get Rachel to shut up and rest already, it'd been so long since she had anyone to talk with like this that she hadn't really realized how much she missed it. She figured since she had time before she had to be back in Fandom and as long as she let Clint know she was okay, she could stay a day or two extra here, just to make sure Rachel got set up here, since Ray didn't seem too interested in coming back with her.
Kitty had no idea what time it was except that she'd had to close the curtains a while ago, so when she heard loud voices and fighting coming from the living room, she was just irritated and tired. So she got up from the chair she'd been sitting in and phased through the wall. "What's the problem with you people? Rachel's finally fallen asleep and you guys want to start some kind of-" And then she saw what she'd walked into, where eyepatched Callisto, now decked out with several tentacles instead of arms, was using said tentacles to hold Marie, while Vange was halfway to dragon in the living room and there was Storm behind Callisto, ready to jump in at any time. "-fight? Ororo?"
With the fight stopped, Ororo pushed off the hood of her kimono jacket thing, revealing hair in a topknot. She didn't look surprised to see her here, either, but she'd probably been in contact with Sage. "Hello, Kitty."
Kitty stuck a hand on her hip, looking her over. "Should've known. You go off to Tokyo, you come back completely different. You look good," she added, the same time Ororo said it back to her.
"So what's been happening here?" Ororo asked, smiling. "You mentioned Rachel?"
"Yeah, she's back! She was Bogan's pet telepath all along," she said, opening the door to Rachel's room just enough to let Ororo peek in without disturbing her. "He grabbed her months ago and nobody knew. Good news is, she seems to to have come through the experience pretty much okay." She closed the door, looking back behind her, and said, "And I have to say, Callisto looks cute with her new look."
"Totally," Callisto agreed, preening more than a little.
"Dare I ask, how?"
"Masque," she explained. "Making free with the revenge thing, courtesy of her skin-morphing powers."
"Backfired?" Kitty guessed, because there was nothing about that that sounded like it'd go right.
"Absolutely," Callisto said, watching as a few tentacles reached out towards Kitty's head.
She raised a hand to tell them to back off. "Leave the hair alone, okay?"
"Sorry, Pryde, my arms have a mind of their own," Callisto told her.
The scary thing was how easily Kitty fell back into this kind of conversation and it took until now for her to realize that 'where'd you get your tentacles?' was a weird conversation to be having. "How'd you get inside, anyway?"
One of Callisto's tentacles pointed behind Kitty.
She turned- "You came out of the closet?"
"At the time, it seemed like the thing to do!"
Well with that, Kitty had to open the bifold doors to the closet to see what was in there. "Maybe they're alternate versions from another dimension," she said, mostly to herself as she peered inside, and found a whole other room. There was art on the walls, plants hanging from the ceiling, and immediately she wanted to have a look upstairs. Because there was an upstairs. "This is so cool!" Kitty said. "This is... What is this, an infinitely expanding pocket dimension? Folded up right next to our own- Hey!"
Several of Callisto's tentacles had grabbed her, pulling her back, and once again Kitty found herself unable to phase herself free. "What's the deal here?" she yelled back, right before she was fully yanked back into the living room.
"Sightsee later, kiddo," Callisto told her. "The lawyer and the girl told us what they know. Bring us up to speed on the rest."
"Bossy, bossy, bossy," Kitty complained, pushing the tentacles off of her with just a little bit of a sulk. She made herself comfortable on the sofa and explained, "Well, the team went up against Bogan. Sage brought me in as her wildcard. Probably because she'd already figured out about Rachel. Since Ray and I have a history, her analysis was that my presence might provide an edge."
"Strange," Ororo said. "I always assumed the telepath was Betsy."
Because of course in this world, there were several telepaths it could be. "Think things through, 'Ro," Kitty said. "When Psylocke was a telepath, she had no teke. When she had teke, no telepathy. One or the other, never both."
"But he's gone, right?" Marie checked. She still looked a little freaked out by the whole thing, and at some point Kitty'd have to get the whole story there. "Bogan's gone. We're safe, right?"
"That's the question, Marie," she said. "The others are searching his catacombs as we speak. To make sure."
As if on cue, the screaming started from the next room. "No!" Rachel was yelling, and Kitty immediately got up, thinking she was having a nightmare. But then she started with the, "You got me once, monster! No way do you take my friends!"
And then the weird bolts of yellow filled the living room, and ugh, it wasn't really worth fighting against someone whose code name was Phoenix. A second later the closet doors were opening and they were all being pulled through it.
"Is this an attack?" Storm demanded. "Is she still working for Bogan?"
"It's an attack, yes!" Callisto said. "But she's trying to save us!"
A second later, Rachel came running through the door, fully awake, slamming the door and falling because she was moving so fast. "I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry, no time to explain, only to act!" she said, crawling over to Kitty and clinging to her. "In here, Bogan can't reach us."
Kitty wrapped her arms around her, trying to be comforting. "But Ray," she said gently, "what about the others?"
Rachel didn't have a good answer for that, and Kitty had to resign herself to not sighing and just worrying about the rest of the team until they finally showed up. And wishing she'd been able to grab her phone before this.
And that was how Kitty Pryde spent a good part of her day in a pocket dimension in a closet while everyone else took out the bad guy.
Still not the weirdest thing she'd ever done. And it was a relief to say she couldn't say she'd missed it.
