MHA #10- Saturday morning

Between the Derek stuff and being ignored by all her dead people, Kitty had pretty much decided to write off this week as a bad one and move on. It was totally that easy, right? Besides, no one had died in the past week and she'd liked the dead people she had met, and those were pluses, even if she realized that was stretching it a little. Look, she'd take what she could get, okay?

And when the knock at the door came this morning, Kitty was wary at first. It didn't sound at all like Clint's knock, and she didn't know who else would be at her door, but she didn't count on it being anyone traumatic so she went and opened the door anyway.

And then looked down to see a gremlin, with a towel wrapped around him, who threw down a snorkel at her feet and then turned to stomp off, feet squishing as he walked down the hall. Why were his feet still squishing? Who knew.

Kitty picked up the snorkel, closed the door, and decided she should take not getting bitten as a plus, too.

It probably wasn't long before there was a Clint-knock at the door. It was a good thing to not be surprising sometimes, honestly.

That knock she knew, so Kitty had no problem going to answer the door and leaning against the doorframe. "You're taller than the last guy who showed up here. Less green, too."

"Yeah, do I want to know why there was a wet gremlin wandering down the hallway?" Clint asked. "Are you all right?"

[throughaphase]

"Yeah, I'm fine," she said, opening the door wider to let him in. "I just have a snorkel to return to Coulson, that's all."

[so_hawkward]

Clint gave Kitty a confused look as he came in, before shaking his head. "I'd ask what he has to do with this, but I've learned it's sometimes better not to question things when Coulson's involved," he said, leaning over to give her a kiss.

If she let the kiss go on for a moment, well, it was that kind of week and she needed it, giving him a little smile when she pulled back. "So what brings you by?"

[so_hawkward]

"I just wanted to see how you were doing," Clint said with a shrug. "You didn't get hit by whatever's going on this week, right?" To him, that seemed like a good thing.

[throughaphase]

"No. I didn't," she said, frowning as she closed the door. "Not you, either?"

[so_hawkward]

"Nope, I am dead-visitor free," Clint said, watching Kitty for a moment. "Are you okay?"

[throughaphase]

"Yeah," she assured him quickly. "Just... There are some people I wouldn't have minded seeing. Who I thought would have wanted to see me."

It'd probably be easier if she knew not all of them were actually dead.

Oh. Yeah, having dead people you'd like to see again was probably a thing, wasn't it? "Hey, just because no one came doesn't mean there's no one who'd want to see you," he said. "Maybe they couldn't come, or maybe they thought coming would upset you."

"They'd all know better than that." Peter'd get yelled at, but she probably also would have never stopped hugging him. "It's just hard, you know?"

"I can imagine," Clint said. "Who would you have wanted to see, if someone had come through for you?"

[throughaphase]

"Doug. Rachel, depending on what happened to her. Illyana. I'd have liked you to meet my dad. Peter..."

The sad thing was she could probably keep going.

"Wow. I guess I didn't think about how many people you've lost," Clint said, moving to try to slip his arm around her waist. "It would have been nice to meet your dad. Maybe a little scary, but nice."

[throughaphase]

"He'd have been tough on you. My mom's a marshmallow in comparison," Kitty told him, leaning into him. "Not that I was super close with either of my parents after I hit thirteen, but he understood me better."

[so_hawkward]

Well, that got Kitty a hug from Clint. "I'm sure he would have been here if he could have been," Clint said. "Maybe only so many people could come? I think most of the folks on the island have lost good people."

"I know," she said, hugging him back and trying really hard to keep her voice even. "And I don't want to be whiny and jealous of everyone else, but..."

But she was seriously jealous of everyone else.

"You can be jealous. It makes sense to be," Clint said. He never thought he'd be wishing to see dead people like this.

[throughaphase]

"But it doesn't help me any," Kitty said, more like she was trying to talk herself out of this mood than anything else. "And Illyana especially would just tell me to grow up and take this as a good thing somehow."

[so_hawkward]

"Eh, growing up is overrated," Clint said with a smirk. "You can feel however you want to feel, and it's okay."

[throughaphase]

"And if I really don't want to feel like this?" she asked. "I'd rather be happy for everyone else and not be missing everybody, but it's not happening."

[so_hawkward]

"Did everyone else seem happy that you've talked to?" Clint asked. "Maybe thinking about that would help?"

[throughaphase]

"Yeah," she said, thinking about it. "Well, not Derek after his sister and I ganged up on him, but otherwise."

[so_hawkward]

"Yeah, well, Derek doesn't count," Clint said, glaring a little. "So, everyone else has been enjoying this, and you care about your friends and want them to be happy, right?"

[throughaphase]

"Yeah," she nodded. "It's just really hard to put that first. I'm trying."

[so_hawkward]

"I think that's all you can do," Clint said, pressing a kiss to Kitty's cheek. "But for what it's worth, I'm here no matter how you feel."

[throughaphase]

"Which I'm very grateful for, considering you've seen a lot of my whiny side lately," she said, hugging him tighter. "You sure about this whole dating me thing?"

[so_hawkward]

"Very much so. It's not like you're being whiny without justification," Clint said. "I just wish there was more I could do to help."

[throughaphase]

"You're here," she said with a little smile. "And you haven't died on me, which goes farther with me than you might normally think."

Seriously, if he ever broke up with her he'd have to fake his death/have his death faked. It was like a rule at this point.

[so_hawkward]

Boy, it was a good thing she wasn't dating Kate's Clint, huh? "I'm trying to avoid death, if at all possible," he said. "I'll be sure to work on that for both of us."

[throughaphase]

"Good. Because if you ever die on me I will kick your ass so hard, I swear."

Look, when Jean died like right after you joined the X-Men and you still got to go to her wedding after that, that was automatically a perfectly normal statement.

[so_hawkward]

"I'd say that doesn't make any sense, but I've heard stories that suggest otherwise," Clint said with a laugh. "The same goes for you, for the record."

[throughaphase]

"I'm doing my absolute best," she assured him. "I've had enough of all that, my own near-death experiences included. That's why I'm out of that game and living where everything bad gets reversed."

Give it a couple days.
