Honestly there was probably no one more relieved to have this over than Lexi, who Kitty had been vague around but also she'd had no choice but to bring her around because this has not been an optimal time to find a babysitter in Fandom.

Which meant that Lexi was insisting on camping out outside the bathroom while Clint showered, with Kitty sitting next to her in the hall to say things like, "Honey, you don't need to knock to check on him, he's there."

Clint wasn't the type of person to linger in the shower on a good day, so he definitely wasn't wasting any time getting the hole essence off of himself. As soon as he was mostly dry and dressed, he opened the door and smiled down at the two of them.

"Oh, did someone miss me?" he said, pulling Lexi into a hug. If it was a little tighter than necessary, he figured Kitty would understand, and he shot her an apologetic look. "Does it help if I say I didn't try to disappear?"

"You were in a hole," Lexi reminded him, thinking that summed it up pretty well.

"The holes at least did seem pretty random a lot of the time," Kitty said, and teased. "So you've got that going for you."

"They were very random, and I was trying to be smart, which was probably my biggest mistake." Clint laughed and somehow squeezed Lexi tighter. "I missed you guys more than I can say, but I've got to be honest that I'm glad you were up here the whole time. You didn't miss anything exciting, I promise."

"How was it down there?" Kitty wondered. Since it had been extremely frustrating up here.

"Infinitely better once there was a bar," Clint said, shrugging. "It wasn't as bad as some other weird stuff has been. I just felt helpless the whole time. I almost would prefer having had bad things to shoot."

"So it was just a bunch of you in a hole?" Kitty asked.

"It was a bunch of us and buildings. And some ships." That made a huge difference, clearly. "We tried to get back up top, I swear, but nothing worked. So, it was mostly keeping ourselves occupied until the smart people still on the surface figured out how to fix things."

Definitely worse than having things to shoot.

"We tried," Kitty told him. "There never felt like anything we could do from here except look."

"I know you did," Clint said, trying to be reassuring. "And if you'd gone looking too hard, you probably would have ended up in the hole with us. It was just terrible all around and I'm never going to look at a raccoon the same way again."

"Oh, raccoons are ruined. We will avoid them at the zoo and everything," Kitty said, shaking her head. "It was just a terrible situation for too long."

Without letting go of Lexi (because that wasn't going to happen for a while) Clint slid his other arm around Kitty and gave her a kiss. "I know, and I'm sorry. But I'm here now and I'm not going anywhere."

"I'm holding you to that," Kitty told him, sliding her own arm around him. "You're stuck with us."

"Yeah, we'll see how long it takes before you start wishing I disappear again," Clint teased, because even after all this time, it was still weird to have people worry about him when bad things happened.

"I never do," she told him, smiling. "And not just because parenting is hard."

Clint laughed and gave Kitty a kiss. "Yeah, you got a lot of quality Lexi time in over the last two weeks, I'm going to have to catch up."

"Good," Lexi said with a nod.

"I'll be happy not bringing her to the bar again," Kitty admitted.
