The Jean Grey School- Sunday
The visit was two-fold. Kurt coming back right before Jennifer Walters called a very specific group of X-Men back to be present for Charles Xavier's will-reading, over a year after his death, was just good timing.
Sort of. This was going to be a mess.
A team of X-Men had been sent to try and find Scott's group, which meant bringing him, Emma and Illyana back to the Jean Grey School (which had apparently recently been blown up again, at least a little). This naturally took some convincing, as so many of the X-Men more or less wanted Scott dead, and that was all Complicated. Kitty basically had time to get there, get back in uniform, let Clint get Lexi settled, and then go to meet Scott's team with the others.
It was tense and quiet, and Kitty found herself towards the back of the group as they entered the mansion to get this over with.
"This is going to be profoundly unpleasant," Illyana sighed from somewhere beside her.
Kitty was actually a little surprised Illyana was talking to her. There wasn't a lot of bad blood between them personally through the Phoenix thing, but there was from before, and Kitty had rallied pretty solidly against her (because she'd been being a manipulative bitch). But she said, "Or maybe this is that one time in the history of our history where everything is chill and low key, and-"
"Kitty, please."
"I know. I couldn't even finish the sentence."
The actual will reading was tough. It was set off by the appearance of a possible world-destroying mutant, and there was an actual holographic recording of Xavier telling the story, admitting to wiping that mutant's memory and possibly making it all worse, along with some other heavy personal stuff. It'd been a mess, and finally Scott asked to pause and take a break, and everyone scattered to process for a bit.
Kitty headed out into the hall after deciding she didn't want to just sit in the room where it felt like it was all hanging in the air, and she saw Kurt, staring out the window, watching Scott and Ororo talk outside with their backs turned to them. She'd seen him in the room, but there hadn't been time to talk, and then things had gotten crazy...
Maybe he felt like he was being watched, because he turned her way, and smiled. "Katzchen."
It'd been so long since she'd had anyone call her that, and it felt amazing. If she'd been worried about how he would come back, all of that vanished immediately. "Elf."
And then she was giving him the biggest hug and not letting go.
"I miss you in these halls, fraulein," he said into her hair.
She said, "Shhhh," and just hugged him until she thought her arms would get tired.
Just after having that thought, she asked, "How long do you think we have? I have someone you should meet."
