25 Unicorn Street- Thursday

Clint and Kitty had never really gone all out for this holiday, and it was a little harder with a three-month-old. It was going to be a night in, with Clint whipping up something special while Kitty tried to lean Lexi in so she could see the flowers on the coffee table, which meant she was trying (and failing) to grab them.

"What do you think?" Kitty asked her. "Is Daddy burning down the kitchen?"

"And if she can't actually eat it," Kitty said. "Sorry, kiddo. Get teeth and we'll talk, oh no I just invoked teething."

"Aww, I don't know if I can deprive her of some mashed potatoes," Clint said. "The steak is all for you and me though, and I got wine too if you want some. That's definitely just for the two of us."

"I haven't had a drink since before I got pregnant, so that could be an adventure," Kitty warned. "There's a certain lack of tolerance these days."

"Mmmm, that means it'll be easier to get you drunk, which increases my chances of scoring with you tonight," Clint teased. "Cheap dates are the best dates."

"You don't need to get me drunk for that," she pointed out.

Clint snickered and peeked into the oven again, turning the light on and off quickly. "I want to make sure you have a good evening though. At least, as good as I promised."

"It will be, because you're making the effort," Kitty smiled. "How's it going?"

"Everything's cooking and nothing is burning yet. I think I need to stop checking it and let myself get distracted by a small child," Clint said, grinning at Lexi.

"Do you want to hold a baby and cook? Because that'd be hot," she pointed out.

Yeah, Clint didn't need that hint twice. He took Lexi and balanced her against his side, grinning at her as he carried her to the counter. "Do you want to help Daddy make some salad? You can't eat any of it but maybe you'll like playing with the lettuce."

"She can mash her hand in it, that should be fun." Luckily she was too little to grasp and throw it yet. Next year, though... "We get vegetables and everything tonight?"

"Yeah, I know veggies are normally reserved just for pizza, but it's a special occasion," Clint teased. "I figured I should make a real, complete dinner for you."

"Wow. You really are getting lucky," Kitty told him.
