The Xavier School- Sunday morning

Technically, Kitty supposed, she was still on an X-Men team, which was why she figured she was called down with the others. Or maybe it was because the team currently consisted of Peter and Ororo for the time being. Either way, when she saw they were meeting with Hank, he got tackleglomped by a girl with a fishbowl on her head.

"Katya, let the man breathe," Hank told her.

"Look at him, kitten. This is not a social call," Ororo agreed.

"I've missed you, too, Kitty," Hank said, hugging her back before releasing her. "I wish it was a social call, but I'm here because I need help against... I may as well just say it. It's the Brood."

Or maybe that was why she was here. The Brood, a race of body-stealing aliens, were not Kitty's favorites, but she had a history with them. And connections to someone with even more of a history with them. "Did he say 'food'?" Kitty asked the others. "I'm pretending I heard 'food.'"

"Henry, you're an agent of SWORD," Ororo said. "Surely the intergalactic police have procedures for dealing with parasitic races."

"We do indeed," he said, taking a seat. "They're based on the premise that if you're infected, you're expendable."

Ororo studied him. "Then this isn't just about a Brood queen and her ilk. Judging by your worry, my friend, I fear this involves Agent Brand."

Kitty rolled her eyes.

"She goes running into these situations to drive me crazy," Hank confirmed.

"We will do all we can to help," Ororo told him.

"That includes me and my Broodling," Kitty said, with so much reluctance. "Tell us what happened."

"SWORD conducts a great deal of scientific research relating to extraterrestrials," Hank began. "Some of it occurs on our primary headquarters, The Peak, but being a Ridley Scott fan, Abigail had the sense to commission a separate space station for more hazardous experiments. They call it Pandora's Box, where hope is sought among the universe's horrors. Case in point: the staff's been developing a method to remove a Brood larva from its host body without killing the host. I don't have to tell you that's not easy, as the larva bond with the host's nervous system. But they succeeded. And there endeth the good news. Soon after the scientists made the breakthrough, the Brood creatures they'd been studying achieved one of their own. The Brood queen broke loose and freed her warriors. They overran the facility. Pandora's Box is not equipped with escape craft, due to risks just like this. The moment their distress signal reached the Peak, Brand led a rescue mission. Only one man came back. He left Brand for dead, but I know her. She's tough, tougher than a normal human. There are places on that satellite she could get to, safe rooms..."

Kitty could get past the 'ewwwwww he likes Brand' feeling in a minute. So far it sounded pretty impossible, but then she'd saved Peter from being "dead" three years, she'd just been brought back... X-Men sort of liked impossible odds.

"If I didn't think there was a strong possibility she's alive- and others as well- I wouldn't be here. But not everyone agrees with me. The Peak has enough weapons aimed at the satellite to atomize it. I've convinced them that what's in those scientists' heads, not to mention Agent Brand's, are too valuable to give up without a fight. They've decided to give us a chance. I could enlist my Avengers team, but given the risks, I'd prefer people who have experience with the Brood. I know I don't have the right to ask, especially given what you've been through in the past..."

"Tovarisch, you have every right," Peter assured him. "All the more because we have been in Agent Brand's place."

"And because, you silly man, we're your friends," Ororo added.

"Now stop with the doe eyes and let's go save your girlfriend already," Kitty said. Ew. Just ew.
