Genosha- Tuesday night

Kitty

Scott's plan called for three teams. Cloak would get Emma and Layla to Xavier and restore his memory to hopefully end this, Doctor Strange would use the astral plane to try and talk some sense into Wanda, and everyone else was going to have to distract the House of Magnus.

What they were doing was interrupting a Magneto-hosted international event in Genosha celebrating forty years of mutant freedom- something Kitty was going to sorely miss if they fixed things- which would be attended by people like Storm, Black Panther, Doctor Doom and Namor, who were all royalty here. That was in addition to Magneto and his kids, two of which were still mutants. And while Spider-Man had come back to the group, Hawkeye hadn't, and that was someone they could have really used here. It was going to be a fight, and currently they were right over Genosha in the helicarrier, just waiting for Scott's okay to head out.

Since they had a second, Kitty looked over at Clint and said, "You sure about this?"

She wasn't, but she trusted Scott.

Clint

And Clint trusted Kitty, so that had to be good enough for now. "Not entirely, but it's our best shot," he said. "I'm going to do my best to keep my eyes on everyone."

Kitty

"Good," she said, nodding and reaching to take his hand. "I'm gonna... I have no idea what I'm gonna do yet. Should be interesting."

Clint

"You're going to stay safe and stay in one piece," Clint said, giving her hand a squeeze. "And probably kick some ass, but the first part is more important."

Kitty

"Okay, I'll go with that. You too," Kitty said with a tiny smile, right before Scott gave the order to go.

Magneto

The guests had only just arrived for the celebration when a dark shadow fell over the palace, and people turned to see a Sentintel robot falling towards them.

This wasn't a problem for Magneto, who raised his hand and stopped it from crashing down on the party. No, the problem was all the superheroes who jumped out of a compartment and started fighting people.

Layla

While everyone else was fighting, Cloak snuck Emma and Layla away to find Xavier. Where he brought them was a courtyard overlooking the city, where they continued walking.

"What's that noise?" Layla asked. "Is that screaming?"

Emma

"It's the fight," Emma said, unconcerned. "There's no one here."

Layla

"Wherever here is," Layla said, looking around. The courtyard had ended in grass, and they continued towards a patch of trees in a very green area. And no one was around and it was creeping her out.

Emma

"Focus, Layla. We have to-"

Emma stopped when she saw what was in their path. There was a large stone with a plaque set onto it, and she realized that it was a grave marker.

XAVIER MEMORIAL GARDEN
He died so Genosha could live

"Oh no," Emma breathed, dropping to her knees. She'd known there was a chance that they wouldn't be able to find Xavier, or that he wouldn't be alive- plenty of people had thought that in the last day or so- but she'd really believed that they would find him and he would fix it all. Now they had zero plan. Even if they won the fight, they couldn't put things back.

Layla

"What does this mean?" Layla asked, more scared by Emma's reaction than anything else. When no one answered, she again asked, "What does it mean? Is... Is that it?"

Cloak

"Wait," Cloak said, and he suddenly seemed to disappear into the ground, his cloak almost swallowing itself.

Layla

Hey, you know what wasn't going to weird Layla out less? That.

"Uh. He's not going to drag up some bones, is he?"

Cloak

A moment later, Cloak reappeared from the ground, getting a startled yelp from Layla.

"There's nothing there," he reported. "No coffin, no body. Just dirt. Xavier's not here. It's not over yet."

Magneto

"Who are you?" Magneto growled, stalking over to them. "Why are you bothering my family?"

Emma

Knowing this could only end badly, Emma held her hand out in front of Layla to try and shield her. "Layla, get-"

Layla

But Layla, totally startled and still new at her powers, didn't entirely have a handle on when she made a person remember, and so Magneto was next.

Pietro

Everyone was screaming. Everything was chaos. One moment they'd been greeting dignitaries and royalty from around the world and now they were being attacked, and their father had disappeared, and no one knew why.

"Pietro, get Wanda out of here and go find where Father landed!" Lorna yelled. "I can only keep the magnetic fields from-"

And as if on cue, something metal went flying towards her. If Pietro had been looking at her instead of for Wanda, he'd have been able to help.

"Why are you attacking my family!" Pietro screamed, pretty much at everyone.

Rogue

"Normally," Rogue said from behind him, grabbing him by the back of the neck to throw him into the nearest wall, "I wouldn't risk using my mutant powers to suck this much power from y'all like this. But we ain't playing to win."

And having accidentally having zapped some of Layla's powers before, that meant her eyes could flash green and make him remember.

Pietro

If Pietro didn't get up from hitting the wall right away, he was busy remembering everything.

Including his last conversation with Wanda, when he'd told her that the Avengers and X-Men were planning to kill her. When she'd confessed that it might be the best thing, and worried if she was a coward for not wanting it to happen. When he'd tearfully begged her to make the world right so she could stay alive and everyone would be happy.

Now he knew that everyone else remembered too, and they were trying to take that away. When Pietro got up, he started running.

Kitty

So, Kitty sort of felt like the worst. These people didn't know anything was wrong. It was possible Magneto didn't even remember what came before this, and here they were, starting a fight in the middle of an event against people who had no idea what was happening. Scott was yelling, people were screaming, Kurt was teleporting all over the place, and they had to look a lot like the bad guys here.

It wasn't stopping her from trying to get a good kick in at a soldier who was wearing too much armor for her liking, though.

Clint

Clint quickly positioned himself as high up as he could get, and began looking for people who might get in the way, but who he didn't already know. Mutants he might need to get along with later were important, but security? They could get pinned down as far as he was concerned.

Princess Ororo

"Who are you people?" Ororo pleaded from where she was flying above them, sending an arc of lightning towards Kitty when she got too close to someone Ororo knew. Not close enough to hit her, just trying to warn her away. "What do you want from us?"

Clint

Sorry Storm, but Clint's first priority was keeping Kitty safe, so he fired an arrow past her to get her attention on him instead. It might not have been smart, but if it worked, that's what counted, right?

"We're here to help you!" Which probably sounded dumb after firing at her, but... "We're trying to save the world, trust us."

Ororo

"You're ruining everything!" Ororo was just talking about the celebration, but they were in fact trying to ruin everything, yes. And so she shot off another burst of lightning towards Clint for shooting at her.

Clint

Clint ducked quickly enough to dodge the lightning, but he still felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up, and he only got up enough to peer and make sure Kitty was all right.

Kitty

Kitty had in fact used that distraction to airwalk up behind Ororo, tapping her on the shoulder. And then once she'd turned around, Kitty punched her.

"Sorry sorry sorry!" Kitty called as she watched Ororo fall downward. Apparently as a princess, Storm wasn't as badass.

Clint

"Kitty! Don't apologize to the lady trying to kill us!" Clint said, peering down at her. "Are you okay?"

Kitty

"Fine," she said, coming back down like she was walking down stairs, and kicking a soldier in the back on the way because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and needed to be knocked over. "You?"

Clint

"Good so far," Clint said, shaking himself off a little as he stood up. Getting zapped by lightning would seriously be one of the worst ways to go out, he thought. "Let's see who else we can find, yeah?"

Pietro

In the middle of the next fight, when everybody was stuck fighting somebody whether they liked it or not, a blur whizzed through the battle. Heroes would find themselves hit way harder than they would have expected, because that's what happens when a guy code named Quicksilver runs through punching everybody that isn't on his side.

Clint probably wouldn't even have time to notice other people get hit before Pietro was socking him, too.

Clint

It was really annoying when Clint didn't see something coming. Or awesome, under certain circumstances. But this was going under 'annoying' as Clint saw stars and went down for the count.

Kitty

Kitty was sort of dimly aware that something was going on around her, but as she was trying to deal with one of the guards, she never had a chance to look. So the next thing she knew, she could herself being clipped hard in the jaw and falling over, trying to shake it off.

Magneto

"This ends!"

Magneto's voice rang out above what was left of the fighting after Pietro took everyone out, and pieces of metal debris lifted into the air around them. Absolutely furious, he lifted himself up into the sky to look down on his son and yell, "What have you done in my name, boy?!"

Pietro

"You were going to let them kill her!" Pietro screamed back. That was the only reason he needed for any of this.

Magneto

"You used her and you used me! I would have never allowed this!" Magneto lifted his hand, and parts of the ruined Sentinel moved with it. "You've destroyed everything and everyone!"

One of the hunks of metal hit Pietro before he even realized what was happening, and being stunned allowed the second to connect.

"And you used my name to do it!" Magneto screamed, before hurtling another piece of debris at him, and another, and another, yelling "What right?" over and over.

Clint

Clint came back to the sounds of the familial fighting, rubbing his head and groaning. He turned and saw Magneto beating Pietro with the Sentinel and wow, that brought up a lot more emotions than he could deal with with his head aching the way it was. All he could think, in the moment, was that this was all so much worse than he'd expected.

Wanda

Everyone on the ground probably heard the "Nooooooooo!" right before the top of a building blew up, the force of which knocked a lot of people to the ground, so it was probably a good thing Clint was already there.

Remaining standing was Magneto, who watched Wanda float towards them. "Wanda," he said, "you shall-"

And then he stopped, as suddenly his mouth was erased.

Wanda landed lightly next to her twin, who was lifeless in a pool of blood, and placed a hand a few inches above his face, till her hand and his whole body glowed red. And then a moment later, he opened his eyes, and was fine enough to hug her back when she pulled him up.

Emma

This might have been fine, a happy ending, except that now everyone was right there with the very unstable woman who had completely changed reality, just muted her father, brought her back to life and could do any number of things to them. As people began pulling themselves to their feet, their panicked thoughts got louder.

Emma, what should we do?

Her mind's a mess, Emma sent back to everyone, because they needed that warning. One blink and she could erase us from existence and not even know she did it. Do nothing until Doctor Strange says. She's too wound up. Doctor?

Wanda

Doctor Strange didn't get a chance to answer before Wanda started talking, still cradling Pietro.

"He- he only wanted you to be happy..." she said. "Look what you've done to us, Daddy. Pietro was right. You- you ruined us before we even had a chance. Why would you treat your children this way? Why? Because you actually think you're better than everyone else. The arrogance of you! You think because we're mutants that we're better than them. That we deserve to rule. That's what you wanted and I gave it to you! But look... look what it becomes."

She turned to look right at Magneto, tears streaming down her face and getting more emotional the more she talked. "Even when you get what you want, you're still this horrible man. We're not the next step. We're not gods. We're freaks! Look at us, Daddy! We're freaks! Mutants! You chose this over us and you ruined us!"

Wanda stood, more calm. "Daddy-"

Emma

Emma caught Wanda's next thought.

"Oh no," she said aloud, but there wasn't any time to stop what happened next.

Wanda

"No more mutants," Wanda said.

People started towards her in a panic, but suddenly everything around Wanda began to glow, until once again, the world went white.
