Xavier School- Thursday early morning
![]() Logan | The good thing was that they had healers at the X-mansion. So once Clint and the X-Men had been loaded into the infirmary, people got to work on making them unhurt and/or no longer technically dead. At least, until the healer finally collapsed of exhaustion. "This one's used up," Logan announced. "What else we got?" |
Emma | "Only other healer's in shock," Emma said. She was sporting a bruise where Danger had hit her, but otherwise she'd fared pretty well. "There are no casualties. Couple on the line..." |
Clint | Clint was standing, which was good, and had his hand on Kitty's shoulder watching her breathe, which was better. "It could have been a lot worse, right?" He was still trying to figure out what the hell happened back there, and it wasn't getting much clearer. |
Logan | "Well, kids ain't dead. We ain't dead," Logan said. Bright side! "Either the Danger Room was programmed to suck at its job, or we're missing something." |
Kitty | Kitty had been laying there, hand over her abdomen mainly to try and cover the giant hole in her shirt, along with the blood that came with getting freaking impaled, and trying to think things through. She kept thinking over everything that had happened in the Danger Room- weird, thinking of it that way now- in an attempt to figure out what Danger even wanted- "Father," she remembered, briefly placing her other hand over Clint's before slowly sitting up, where Lockheed perched himself next to her. "It's about the father. We don't matter. At least, not now. We were just in the way. She has to kill the professor." |
Clint | "Can she do that? Isn't he... you know, kind of crazy powerful?" Clint asked. |
Kitty | "She's programmed with all our strengths and weaknesses. That should include him," Kitty answered, and turned herself so she could look straight at Scott, who was sitting up on his cot. "He's in Genosha. Am I right?" |
Scott | "You're right," Scott said after a moment, noticing the look of betrayal on Emma's face. At least when Peter came over to help him stand, that could distract him a little. "Sorry, Emma. He made us swear not to tell. Not even you. I half forgot myself..." |
Clint | Clint reached for Kitty's hand at the mention of Genosha, because that was just about the worst place that could be brought up as far as he was concerned. "How did you know?" |
Kitty | "The Danger Room- or, just Danger, I guess... She took me there," Kitty said, and she squeezed Clint's hand but wasn't gonna look at anyone for this. "I recognized it, and she was talking about 'father', and..." And that was a really terrible topic for Kitty, and in this room only Clint knew how terrible. "I remember the place pretty well." |
Scott | Scott wasn't going to push it. "We have to arrange transport to Genosha," he said. "I'll try Reed Richards." |
Clint | "You could try the Avengers. Er, your Avengers." That wasn't at all weird. "I'm sure they'd help." |
Hank | Don't think Hank wasn't considering having you make the call for fun, Clint. "They've gotten weirder calls from us," he said. "Soon as I check the children I'll see if they have anything lying around." |
Peter | "We must hurry. The professor cannot fight that thing alone," Peter said, already heading for the door. And from the ground, the healer managed a, "You're welcome..." |
Kitty | The kids were checked up on, transportation was arranged since the Blackbird was um, not usable at the moment, and everyone had suited up to go, though Kitty took her time in the locker room. So much time in fact that she just took a seat on the bench to think for a while, and try to psych herself up. The last time she'd been to Genosha had been when Fandom replaced her with a Kitty whose world had never dealt with that bit of genocide. It was taking some work to prepare herself for what she knew was actually true here, which meant thinking back through the security feeds she'd watched of the destruction happening. She was not entirely prepared for this today. There should be some kind of rule about impalement or psychological torture, not both. |
Peter | After a while Peter got concerned, and went looking for her before someone started asking. "Katya?" he called, partly to check and partly to warn her that he was there. |
Kitty | Kitty stood quickly, tugging on her gloves as he came around the lockers like she'd only just finished getting dressed. Which was weird. No one took that long to put on gloves. "I'm good," she lied. "I'm ready." |
Peter | Liiiies. "I don't think you should go," he stated. "We can do without you." |
Kitty | Kitty frowned, because that was a good way to raise her hackles right off the bat. "Yeah, you've made that pretty clear," she said icily. |
Peter | Peter was not the best speaker, and that frown was good evidence of that. "I just think that-" |
Kitty | "I'm an X-Man," she snapped, pushing past him. "I'm in this and I can handle myself just fine. That last fight didn't go great, but... but you got just as impaled as I did back there and... and if you don't want me around, just... Well, you could just say it." |
Peter | Now it was Peter's turn to frown. "I don't want your around?" |
Kitty | "Finally he says it out loud!" Kitty said, eyerolling. |
Peter | Wait what was happening. "But I just repeated what-" |
Kitty | "I'm sorry, okay?" she went on. "So maybe I shouldn't have told you to back off right away when you hadn't even done anything, but I was thrown. You came back from the dead, and things were said, and I have this really great life now, and I didn't want to make things weird, but I did. But I am totally about the work here, and you're feeling what, crowded? Well, boo hoo! Lives are at stake here, pal!" |
Peter | Aww. Peter hadn't gotten one of those rants since he'd come back to the X-Men. "It is good to know, no matter how long I am gone, you do not grow up too much," he said with a smile, which faded quickly. "I am... confused, yes. I feel so much- I still hear so much I can hardly comprehend. I heard about Genosha. Those millions killed... Henry explained it to me. He did not tell me your father was there." |
Kitty | It still hurt ridiculously bad whenever someone found out about it. At least there wasn't an 'I'm sorry' or anything in there. "Yeah," she said, dropping her head. "Lotta people lost family. I'm not exactly special." |
Peter | "That is not the point," Peter insisted. "You should not have to go there." |
Kitty | Oh. That's what he'd been getting at. "But I do," she said, looking up at him again. "I'll be all right. Thanks for caring. And sorry for the rant. The latest rant." |
Peter | "If you're sure," he said, but he was not going to push it mostly so he wouldn't set her off again. The boy could be taught. "Scott said ten minutes. We should be ready." And then he set off for the door, just in case she needed more time. |
Clint | And that was Clint's cue to shift his weight from one foot to another by the doorway, to make it look like he hadn't just been standing there for the last few minutes. "Hey, uh, are you guys ready to go?" he asked. |
Peter | "It might be a few minutes," Peter said, because he was nice like that and he assumed Clint would get why. |
Clint | Why did Peter have to be hot and ridiculously buff and nice? It was so unfair. "That's all right, I think we've still got time. Logan's probably still squeezing into his spandex." |
Kitty | "That is not the phrasing I wanted to hear," Kitty said, shaking off the previous conversation a little. See, totally fine here. |
Clint | "Yeah, I realized what an unpleasant image that was after I said it," Clint said, giving Kitty a more serious look. "So, you're sure you want to do this?" Yes, he'd already heard her say that, but he still needed to verify since, you know, Genosha. |
Kitty | "I'm good," Kitty said firmly, wondering if she was going to be getting this when she met up with the rest of the team, too. "Cool as a cucumber. Steady as a... whatever a steady thing is." |
Clint | "I don't doubt it. And you've got... well, all your friends going too." See, he could include himself and Peter. He was pretty proud of that. "This is gonna be okay." |
Peter | "And now, this friend should be going," Peter said, and paused a little awkwardly as he wondered if he'd managed the wordplay right. And then he just left. |
Clint | Clint watched Peter leave and smiled softly at Kitty. "You know, he's kind of growing on me. I wasn't expecting that." |
Kitty | "He does that. Just wait till he does something dumb and you can't even be mad at him," Kitty said dryly. |
Clint | "You know, I think I suddenly understand why you've stuck with me for so long," Clint teased, reaching over to grab her hand. "Are you really okay?" |
Kitty | "Yeah," she said, squeezing his hand. "It's going to suck, but I have to deal with it sometime, right? I can do what I need to do." |
Clint | "I meant more... physically," Clint said, looking at her stomach. "You... I mean, I know mutant healers are awesome, but--" |
Kitty | "Oh. Yeah, totally cool there," she assured him, even as her free hand went to the area. "I'm even pretty sure I lost my piercing..." |
Clint | Clint frowned and put his hand over Kitty's. "If you could avoid getting impaled again, I'll totally pay for you to get a new piercing," he offered. |
Kitty | "I promise not to get impaled again," Kitty said. "I'll even promise not to get hurt any more today." |
Clint | "Okay, thank you," Clint said, letting out a small sigh of relief. "I'd make the same promise, but I know myself." |
Kitty | "I'll settle for you not getting hurt too bad," she said, because she knew him too. |
Clint | "I promise to try very hard not to get hurt too bad," Clint said, giving her hand a squeeze before pulling back. "We'd better catch up with the others before they leave without us." |
Kitty | "Yeah," Kitty said, letting out a breath. "Let's go save the day." |
