Kitty | It took longer to get up through the facility than it did to get down. Kitty already felt wiped out, and then she had to take Peter with her, and he was not a small guy. And when they did get up through the floor, it was chaos, because of course it was.

Wolverine | Cyclops was bandaged and looked pretty unconscious for the moment, part of a wall was gone, and Ord was back, weapons out and looking a little worse for wear, facing off against Beast, Wolverine, and Emma. "Man's got eyeballs," Wolverine was saying.

Emma | Emma said, "And if he's a man by our definition, that's not the only soft-"
And then she stopped, because she'd just seen who'd come up through the floor.

Ord | "Too scared for stratagems, X-Men?" Ord asked. "Then maybe it's time we finished this."

Wolverine | "Okay," Wolverine gaped. "Yeah. Why don't we do that."

Colossus | He got his answer from an armored-up Peter punching him straight in the back. Did he really need his spinal column?
Kitty could hear the sounds of a fight, but she was too busy trying really hard to do something besides lay down on the floor and go to sleep for a while.

Ord | "You!" Ord yelled over the sounds of fists clanking against metal. "It matters nothing that you've escaped! Do you think because you are made of mere steel that you can stand against me?"

Colossus | "I am not made of steel," Peter returned, grabbing Ord's wrists to flip him over hard onto the floor. "Rage. I. Am made. Of rage!" And it looked a lot like those were his fists coming down on Ord's head. That was gonna hurt.

Wolverine | "Finish it, Pete," Wolverine said. Ord would not be a big loss.

Nick Fury | "Sorry," came a voice behind them. That voice belonged to Nick Fury, standing with about a dozen armed SHIELD agents and a green-haired woman wearing sunglasses indoors. "You ain't gonna win this day."
He explained, giving Cyclops and Kitty time to recover: Ord had brought Kavita Rao her subject, Tildie Soames, a little girl whose mutant powers was that her nightmares came true, which resulted in the death of her parents. This meant Ord was an ambassador for his people and working to help create the cure, which meant diplomatic immunity.
The line of cursing that came from Wolverine was surprising, which was saying something.
"You heard me, tiny," Fury said. "And having heard, you walk away."

Emma | "Not bloody likely," Emma replied.

Wolverine | "Play me straight, Fury," Wolverine said. "This dink is a diplomat?"

Abigail Brand | "You don't need that information," said the green-haired woman.

Wolverine | "And you don't need both those arms, Hydra-hair," he shot back.

Nick Fury | "Seems like you got a few answers of your own should be coming. Chief among them," Fury said, jerking one thumb towards Peter. "Wasn't that guy dead?"

Kitty | "He was here," Kitty snapped. "Here being tortured, being tested by Ord like an animal so you could design your cure."

Nick Fury | "I don't know what you're talking about," Fury said.

Emma | "You don't? You're clearly in bed with this alien berk yet you've no clue what he's been up to," Emma pointed out. "Doesn't sound like you."

Nick Fury | "How do you know your Colossus is the genuine article in the first place?" Fury challenged. It was not really a misguided question with the X-Men, let's be fair.

Emma | "I read his mind," said Emma.

Beast | "I matched his DNA," said Beast.

Wolverine | "I smelled him," said Wolverine.

Beast | "I also did that."

Kitty | "This is Peter Nikolaievitch Rasputin," Kitty said. "And you owe him the god damn truth."

Nick Fury | Fury was quiet for a moment, then looked over at the green-haired woman. "Agent Brand?"

Brand | Brand gave one quick shake of her head. "You don't have the authorization to make me divulge classified-"

Nick Fury | "Yeah, what I got is the urge to disappear and leave this dink at the mercy of these very unreasonable superpowered types," Fury told her. "Tell them the truth. It ain't like they're gonna like it."

Brand | Brand was definitely not happy about this, but acquiesced. "I'm Special Agent Abigail Brand. I head the Sentient Worlds Observation and Response Department. We work with SHIELD in matters extraterrestrial."
Yep. SWORD. SHIELD and SWORD. That happened.

Beast | "The government and their acronyms," Beast said. "Honestly, it's adorable."

Brand | "I didn't pick the name," Brand retorted. "The fact is, SHIELD has its hands full trying to keep this world together. And somebody has to keep track of the others."

Cyclops | "So funding terrorists isn't just for Earthlings anymore, huh?" Cyclops asked. "We selling arms to the Skrulls, too?"

Brand | "What we're doing here, Mr. Summers, is trying to prevent a war," she said.

Nick Fury | And that was when the outer wall came crashing in. There were dozens of mutants, the ones that had been lining up for weeks for a chance at the cure, spilling inside. "Hold fire!" Fury yelled to the agents. "These are civilians!"

Brand | "Ord," Brand realized, looking around and seeing that he'd disappeared in the chaos. "Where's Ord?"
She tapped her earpiece and started running. "We need agents up in Research right now. Ord is loose and very unstable!"
Unfortunately, she didn't get very far, because as she tried to run out of there, something grabbed onto her ankle, and she fell forward.. half in the floor?
Kitty let her go and phased back up through the floor, but only after Fury and SHIELD started getting the invading mutants subdued without deadly force. The X-Men clearly were in no mood to fight their own kind. "You people are in a world of trouble," Brand told them.

Cyclops | "Well, that's the world we're from," Cyclops deadpanned. "Finish your story, Agent."

Brand | "Genocide," Brand said, looking up at them from the floor. "'And they all died suddenly ever after.' The end. You like it? The Breakworld's technologies include something roughly as 'timeshadows.' They can see a partial version of the future. Not visit. Not change. Just see. They saw a world in chaos, in ashes. The Breakworld, gone in their lifetimes, utterly destroyed. By a mutant. Most probably an X-Man."

Wolverine | Wolverine grabbed her by the front of her uniform, lifting her half up off the floor. "So you got together and decided to take care of the muties once and for all, huh?"

Brand | "Deal with the facts, bumblebee," Brand snapped. "Our own precog stats confirmed their findings. A mutant will most certainly destroy the Breakworld in the next three years. That's a whole world, gone. Because of one mutant. That wouldn't be a first now, would it?"

Cyclops | "Jean," Cyclops said. Wasn't like he was going to forget that whole Phoenix thing.

Emma | "Jean Grey is dead, Agent," Emma reminded her. It was possible she was reminding Scott of that, too.

Brand | "Yeah, that'll last," Brand said, as Wolverine let her go.

Kitty | "Did you know what he was doing to Peter?" Kitty wondered. "All this time, did you know?"
Forgive her preoccupation. If you wanted to mess up her brain, tonight was exactly the way to do it.

Brand | "Yes," Brand said, with zero shame. "Fury didn't. Not his department. Ord came here with a declaration of war, people. The cure was diplomatic tap dancing till we could get a bead on which mutant was-"

Kavita Rao | She was interrupted by Kavita Rao running in, looking panicked. "Please! He's got Tildie."

Wolverine | "The kid?" Wolverine asked.

Kavira Rao | "He's taken everything," Dr. Rao said. "The samples. The research… He's gone below and I… If Tildie's hurt…"

Cyclops | "Why below? What's below?" Cyclops asked.

Kitty | "A subcomplex. His lab," Kitty said. And there was no way she could go back through that to get to it a third time.

Brand | Brand hit her earpiece. "Fury, it's Brand. Total evac now, five hundred yards min."

Cyclops | "What's going on?" Cyclops demanded. "What's he gonna do?"

Brand | "He's gonna leave," she said.
And that was all they really needed. The X-Men and SHIELD picked up any civilians that couldn't get themselves out, while anyone who could had to follow them out, and they hadn't made it that far out before the building they'd been in exploded outwards, with a giant spaceship coming out of it and heading into the sky.
"You were gonna brief me on this, I'm sure," Fury told Brand.
Brand ignored that. "Can you bring him down?"
"Not a chance." Maybe if he'd been prepared for spaceships.

Emma | "He's got the serum," Emma reminded them. "Hit him with the jet!"

Kitty | "There's a girl in there with him," Kitty told her.

Kavita Rao | "You have to help her," Dr. Rao insisted.

Colossus | "He doesn't get away," Peter said darkly.

Wolverine | Wolverine was thinking the exact same thing. "You feeling rested up, Petey?"

Colossus | "I am strong," he replied. Mere moments later Peter had picked him up and was throwing him, claws out, towards the ship in a fastball special.
Which had to look extremely weird to all the non-X-Men.

Emma | "You really have kept in shape," Emma commented.

Nick Fury | Whatever Wolverine did, he got Ord to land the ship within a few minutes, or he'd just knocked him out and done it himself, who knew. Either way, Ord was unconscious when he was restrained, with little Tildie staying close to Dr. Rao.
"Here's what we're all gonna do," Fury said. "Not a solitary thing. We all walk away from this like nothing happened. Which, after SHIELD gets done here, will be more or less the truth."

Beast | "You are of course joking," Beast said.
"Of course," Fury deadpanned. "This is one of those jokes I'm so famous and beloved for."
"What Agent Brand did here is inhumane, illegal, and appalling," Beast insisted.

Nick Fury | "Yeah, she's a pip. I'm not gonna speak for my counterpart here," Fury said, stopping Brand when she opened her mouth, "and neither is she. Fact is, she blew it on many levels and that will not go unremarked. But she's dealing with a much bigger picture than any of us. She's trying to stop a war that just got that much closer to inevitable. And since the only things that got wrecked in that landing were Dr. Rao's work and the illustrious ambassador- and it's interesting how that worked out- I'd count my blessings and go."
And in the end, that was exactly what they had to do.
