Clint and Kitty's hotel room- Tokyo- Wednesday late night

After she and Lockheed went back to the hotel, Kitty actually managed to get to sleep, but that didn't go so well. There'd been nightmares about running from and being trapped by ninjas who phased but she couldn't, and yelling at them about how they couldn't have her soul. And then the floor under her collapsed and left her freefalling till she fell into a giant-sized Ogun's waiting mouth...

At which point she woke up screaming "Ogun!" and bolted up in bed, and sleep might just be overrated.

Clint

Clint had stirred a little when Kitty left the room, but when she got back, he'd settled right back to sleep. That scream, on the other hand, got him upright as well. "Kitty?" he said, rubbing his eyes and looking around. "What happened?"

Kitty

She looked around, reorienting herself. Right. She was in the hotel, in Japan, and nothing was happening right now.

She shook her head. "Nothing. Just a nightmare."

Clint

"Right, nothing," Clint said, not entirely believing her as he put his hand on her back and rubbed in small circles. "Do you want to talk about it?"

Kitty

"Not really," she said, but she supposed she should. Lockheed had even come over to sit himself on her lap, because he was more than used to being Kitty's security blanket when she was upset. "You know the whole brainwashing thing? I've just had a few uncomfortable reminders of it."

Clint

"The surveillance tape?" Clint asked. "You looked kind of spooked watching it. I didn't want to bug you in front of that woman."

Kitty

"Yeah," she nodded. "The guy who did it, Ogun... He was Hand. And the ninja in the video looked kind of like him. It's messing with me, I guess."

Clint

"Do you think he could be behind all of this?" Clint asked, rubbing Kitty's shoulders now. "Although, I'm still not sure what the Hand would want with a dragon."

Kitty

"I mean, he's dead. Not that that's stopped him before, but he hasn't come after me in years," she said, starting to relax a little. "I'm sure I'm just freaking out over nothing."

Liiiies.

Clint

"Well, we still have ninjas of unknown origin to deal with." So helpful, Clint. "But for right now, you're safe. Nothing bad's happened here, right?"

Kitty

"Not so far," Kitty said. And then, "Oh, some guys tried to jump me when I was out walking."

No big.

Clint

Yeah, not so much. "Wait, what? You--was this while you were gone? I thought you were in the hotel," Clint said, straightening up more to face her. "Who jumped you? Are you all right? Why didn't you tell me when you got back?"

Kitty

"I wanted to clear my head a little," she said. "I got cornered by four guys, broke 'em all, and Lockheed followed me to show why you don't mess with his mama. I'm fine, and I didn't want to wake you up."

Clint

"Okay, in the future? Getting jumped is something I don't mind being woken up for." Clint wrapped his arms around Kitty and tried to pull her in for a hug. "I'm sorry this is getting so messed up. I'm glad I came with you, but I can't help you if you don't tell me stuff is happening."

Kitty

"It's fine," she said, hugging him back even if Lockheed was glaring for being jostled with the movement. "A few thugs are easy. I'm just trying to get past all the ninjas, and my own brain."

Clint

"You're safe here with me," Clint said again. That seemed like an important distinction to make. "And your nightmare was just a nightmare. Maybe we should stick together, at least until we get back to Fandom."

Kitty

"Yeah," she agreed. "And it's not like the same guy who tried to replace my identity and turn me into an assassin is after me for a third time after he died, right? That'd just be silly."

So silly she kept worrying about it.

Clint

"I don't think I like your version of the universe very much right now," Clint said with a sigh. "Even if he is, I'm not going to let that happen."

Kitty

She should probably not tell him about that time Ogun possessed her and Pete had to threaten to kill her rather than let him have her. That probably would not go over well, even as a warning.

"Guess I've got my boys looking out for me, huh?" she said with a little smile, reaching to scratch under Lockheed's chin.

Clint

Yeah, no, that might not be something to mention right now.

"Of course. That's our job," Clint said, giving Kitty a little nudge before laying back down. "Come on, it's been a pretty long day and you still need sleep."

Kitty

"Yeah," Kitty said, giving Lockheed one last pet before he flew up to perch himself somewhere nearby in case anything happened. Then she laid back down, snuggling against Clint because she could. "Bedtime for people and dragons."

Right, like she'd be sleeping well at all for the rest of the night.
