Modern American History- Monday- 2nd period
Class today was in a regular classroom, though the desks had been pushed off to the sides of the room and there were a couple trunks and a large mirror set up.
"Today we're talking about the 80's," Kitty began, passing out this week's fact handouts. "This was kind of a weird decade, if kind of awesome at the same timeshhh she had bias. The 70's had led us towards a recession, but people in the 80's were obsessed with making and spending money. Business management was the most popular major in schools, people were encouraged to think that greed was good, and you just weren't anybody if you wore jeans that didn't slap a famous designer's name on your butt. I mean, people were big into charity, but overall it was a decade of excess. Drug use was on the rise, and First Lady Nancy Reagan made her cause the anti-drug Just Say No program, which... didn't really work out in the long run but don't do drugs, kids." That was responsible, right?
"The Cold War was coming to an end, with communist regimes starting to shake, and then the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, reunifying Germany after years of separation thanks to World War II. So things were finally starting to change and become more like what we recognize now. Unforunately this also meant that AIDS became a problem, though it'd be a while before people began to realize that it wasn't just limited to one group and was everyone's problem. In cheerier things, we also had MTV, which yes, really did used to show music videos, computers and the start of the internet, and it became much more common to have parents who were divorced, or for unmarried couples to live together.
"But when people talk about the 80's, the thing they're probably talking about the most is the fashion. Or the terrible, terrible hair. Which is what you're going to do today! I've got pictures in case you have no idea what I'm talking about, and you've got trunks of clothes and a mirror. Go make yourselves totally rad."

Re: 80's yourself up!
The spandex leggings she put on weren't bad since, you know, superhero, but combined with the too-large sweater that showed off her shoulder and the leggings? She was glad she came from a more reasonable era.
