MHA #10- Monday afternoon

When you'd gotten sucked into a locker and spent days in there, your priorities were fairly simple upon getting out. So once Kitty got to her apartment again, there was a shower, and there was food, and now it was time for her to relax on the sofa with her laptop to catch up on everything she'd missed in the last few days.

Which meant she was obsessively refreshing the BBC's website to see how the royal baby watch was going. She'd lived in the UK long enough to claim real interest in this subject, okay, shut up.

Kitty hugged him tighter, partly because she knew he needed it and partly because this scared her retroactively. Though really, Stiles was like the best best friend ever. "I'm going to guess it worked?" she asked quietly.

Stiles nodded. "Yeah, I got the flare away from him. I mean, the gasoline still exploded, but it wasn't because of him. Lydia pushed us out of the way, so we were fine."

Physically, anyway.

"It was a rough night. Derek called later and yelled at me for putting myself in danger and then I come home to find him hurt from his trip home so I had to yell at him...the last few days have sucked," Stiles said, lifting his head up enough to wipe his eyes on his sleeve. "Derek's fine, by the way."

"Good." She'd make time to yell at him later. "Scott's really lucky to have someone like you. We all are, really. And I'm glad you're okay."

Physically, anyway. Notice how she wasn't letting him go yet.

"I'm glad I'm okay too," he said, perfectly happy with having all of the hugs. "Despite what Derek thinks, I don't actually have a death wish."

"I know. You're just trying to do the right thing." Which sometimes led to all the danger, which was why they all worried.

"I wish doing the right thing had better results," he said. "I mean I'm glad I saved everybody, even the member of the alpha pack, but it doesn't feel like I did anything in the long run. The darach is still out there and I'm not any closer to finding him."

"That's the thing about the long run," she said. "You can't always tell from here how that's gonna turn out. Though I also have to wonder what a darach is."

"Oh right." He forgot not everybody had been reading up on Druids like he had been. "It's what's doing the sacrifices. Darach is like a dark Druid or something. We think he's making sacrifices to start a war against the alpha pack."

"He's the one who's been killing people this whole time?" Since she knew about at least one other body that'd been found recently. Thanks, Derek.

"Well he's the one doing the human sacrifices, the one responsible for Heather," Stiles said. "The alpha pack killed Erica."

People were dying all over the place, yep.

"Wow, things are rougher there than I thought," Kitty frowned.

"Tell me about it," Stiles said, pulling away so he could scrub his hands over his face. He really needed to sleep for about a month. "Things are only going to get worse before they get better, and now I have to worry about Derek too. He didn't even tell me he was going back to Beacon Hills, the asshole. After all that crap he gave me about telling him when I left."

"Trust me, I understand." Since her own last conversation with Derek had involved worrying about Stiles going back there. "Any idea what he was up to? I doubt he'd tell me."

Stiles nodded. "Yeah, he's still trying to find out the identity of the alpha that killed Laura. We lured the alpha to the school and he practically ripped Derek's chest out through his back. Scott and I thought he was dead at the time."

That happens with Derek a lot.

Well that wasn't a happy mental image. "And he's supposed to be fine?"

"He's pretty much healed from it," Stiles said, shrugging a shoulder. "He's more irritated I won't tell him who the alpha is but even ghost Laura told me not to. He'll find out soon and then he'll be pissed at me. Again."

"If ghost Laura told you not to, then he'll have to deal," she said, because she kind of figured Laura knew best on this one.

"When has Derek ever been known to just deal?" Stiles asked.

"...Okay, point," she conceded. "He'll have to learn."

Stiles snorted 'cause, yeah, no way that was happening. "Man you so did not sign up for all this when you decided to be friends with us, I'm sorry."

And they hadn't even gotten their weird romantic feelings out in the open yet! Kitty had so much to look forward to.

"Don't be. I come from somewhere where people get de-aged and re-aged and come back from the dead and cloned on a regular basis," Kitty told him. "I'm kind of used to it."

"Still feel bad about getting my drama all over you," Stiles said. "I don't really talk like this with people back home."

And that is why canon Stiles was about five seconds from a mental breakdown.

"And that's why I like that you talk about it here. It's a lot to deal with, and you have people who are willing to at least let you get it out of your system." Lord knew she'd needed it, so she was more than happy to be his sounding board.

"It helps I don't have to lie about the weird stuff when I talk about it here," he said. "Though it does come with the downside of making you people freak out over me. At least you're a lot more sane about it than Derek."

"I don't freak out, I worry in a reasonable manner," she corrected. "And yeah, I worry, but I also know that a few years ago I was doing the same sort of things, so."
