A store on the mainland- Saturday

Kitty really did like shopping with Derek. He had good taste, she liked hanging out with him, and she could usually find something to tease him about, so it was a good time. She wasn't so happy about the reason for this shopping excursion, though, since the reason was that if you kept wearing kinda slutty things to work just because you could, eventually someone was going to say something.

Which was still a little weird to her, because she'd worn questionable things through her teen years and no one did ever say anything. Because the X-Men were terrible at setting boundaries, that's why.

Even as they walked into the store, Kitty said, "The top wasn't even that bad, you know. You didn't even see it."

"I wear blue." A muted blue.

"A brighter color," she amended.

"Like I said, I don't like drawing attention." Because wearing black helped with that. Really.

"Wearing a color means a couple people will comment 'Oh hey, you're wearing a color' and then no one will care," Kitty pointed out.

"They might think I was a pod person." True story.

[throughaphase]

"And then you say 'Kitty made me.' They'll buy it," she said.

"Except the 'made me' part."

[throughaphase]

"'Dared me to?'"

One day Derek was going to wake up to find colors in his closet- or whatever served as one- because he'd made the mistake of befriending someone who walked through walls.

Really, he should just hope she didn't team up with Pinkie Pie.

"I will get one shirt with a color you pick," Derek replied. "And I have veto power."

[throughaphase]

"Deal," Kitty said. "I like that we can work together like this."

Derek just snorted, flipping through a rack of shirts. And then was instantly sobered by the fact that she reminded him of Laura right then.

"What?" she asked, looking at him over the rack.

[justlurkinghere]

"Try that one," he said instead of using his words to expression emotions, shoving another shirt that was way too low a V for his rules.

[throughaphase]

Kitty saw that V, and compared it with that other shirt. "If this is your way of getting out of normal jeans, it's not gonna work," she told him.

Just accept his 'I don't want to talk about it' in fashion form, Kitty!

"I told you all my jeans are normal."

[throughaphase]

"And I told you what I think about that," Kitty said. "If I take this one that you gave me, our deal still stands, yes?"

His mouth went tight for a moment at that. "Yes."

[throughaphase]

"Then I'll take it," Kitty told him.

[justlurkinghere]

"Just go pick out a shirt for me." So they could leave and he could brood properly.

[throughaphase]

"Fiiine," Kitty said, like it was a huge chore. But a little bit of looking had her tossing a simple hunter green V-neck at him. "Not too bright, but it's still a color. It also comes in bright red, if that's more your thing."

She was joking on that last part.

"I'm not Stiles." With his Red Ridinghood Complex.

It worked. If only it was a deeper v...

"No, you're not. Thoughts anyway?" she asked.

[justlurkinghere]

"It works." He'd wear it until the color faded. So, ha.

"Yay," Kitty said, "I feel like I've accomplished something today."
