The Raft- Monday afternoon
Kitty had chickened out of going to see Peter a bunch of times. Like, a bunch. She'd gone with Logan over the weekend to see him, but then stayed in the jet for a while. Then she got as far as security, doubled back and returned to the jet. Then did that again. She'd even come back to Fandom and made it as far as getting through her class before she was booking a portal back to do this for real. She still had a lot of things she wanted to yell at Peter about, and she kind of wanted to give him hugs, but then she wanted to hit him, and given all the hormones these days she wasn't sure she could do any of those things without bursting into hormone-induced tears, and then yelling some more.
Ultimately, she came back today, waited till she knew he'd be out of his cell, and sort of broke in by phasing, to set up the art supplies she'd decided to leave.
Look, it was complicated when you were unbelievably mad at someone and yet knew what they were putting themselves through and it killed you to think about it. Sometimes you bought them art supplies.
But she couldn't just leave stuff there, so, she'd sat down to write a note to explain. Once she started writing, everything just sort of spilled out: the times she'd tried to visit, how she didn't know how to reconcile any of the things he'd done lately with the person she knew, how she was proud of him for taking responsibility (that's what she'd settled on right now, anyway), how she was optimistic that he'd find some kind of peace finally, how she was still furious about that Phoenix-fueled attempted murder spree that included Clint, and that she hoped he'd end up being okay.
She left the letter with the supplies and had started to phase through the wall when they caught her. Peter was there, half-metal since his powers had fritzed out, escorted by two guards who were demanding to know how she got in here.
And then there was Peter, saying, "Kayta, wait!"
"I can't," she said, not looking him in the eye. "I just can't. I left a note."
With that, she continued out through the wall, to make her way out before they could get to her.
