Clint and Kitty's apartment- Cincinnati, OH- Tuesday
Kitty | Between work and the upcoming wedding, Clint and Kitty hadn't really had a ton of time for themselves. At least, not outside their apartment. Since finally neither of them had anything they needed to do tonight, they were getting a chance at a much-needed date night. "I'm not sure I'm moving fast enough," Kitty said, coming out of the bedroom, putting her earrings in. "How long do we have?" |
Clint | "You're fine, relax," Clint said from the couch, where he was flipping through channels on the TV. "Our dinner reservation isn't for another half an hour. I factored in plenty of Kitty-getting-ready time." He peered back at her and smiled. "You already look beautiful." |
Kitty | "You're just saying that because we've spent way too much on this wedding for you not to," Kitty teased, leaning over the back of the couch to give him a kiss. |
Clint | "I'm saying it because it's true," Clint insisted. "I factored in getting ready time because we've spent too much on the wedding for you to decide I'm an idiot and you don't want to marry me." |
Kitty | "That is never going to happen," Kitty smiled, though she was interrupted in what she was going to say next by someone knocking at the door. "Were you expecting someone?" |
Clint | Clint shook his head and glanced at the door. "No. It's probably someone selling something. Ooh, maybe it's kids with cookies." |
Kitty | "Don't get my hopes up," Kitty said, standing up to go to the door, even looking through the peephole. "Hey, it is a kid." |
![]() Layla Miller | It was a young blonde girl, yes. But when Kitty opened the door, a couple other people stepped behind the girl. She caught a glimpse of a blonde woman, a hairy guy, and someone dressed all in purple? And those were just the people she could see. "Sorry," the girl said, and her eyes flashed green. |
Kitty | Kitty's eyes flashed green, too. And when they did, all of a sudden she realized that the life she'd led- for two days that felt like twenty-two years- was a total fabrication. In a rush, everything came back to her: her childhood, her time as an X-Man, Genosha, Fandom, every best friend, boyfriend, teacher, job and random messed up thing was back in her memory, weirdly on top of what she'd thought was true here. She felt like she might be sick. "Oh my god," she said, looking between Emma and Logan. "Oh my god." |
Clint | The tone of Kitty's voice got Clint's full attention, and he quickly got up and went over to the door. "Kitty? What's going on?" he asked, peering at all the people standing outside. "Who are you?" |
![]() Layla | Layla looked to Emma for approval. This guy wasn't on their list, but then again she barely had any idea of what was going on anyway. So when Emma nodded, Layla looked at Clint, her eyes flashed again, and she made him remember his whole real life, too. |
Clint | Clint's eyes flashed green, and he shifted a little where he stood as all of his memories came flooding back - his actual childhood, Barney and the circus, and all the other terrible crap that made up his real life. When the rush was over, Clint blinked and looked around at where he and Kitty had spent the last two days. "What the hell happened?" |
Emma | "Just Magneto using his psychotic daughter to remake the entire world in his image," Emma said, brushing past Kitty to step inside, with a small crowd of people they'd already un-glamored following her. She had no patience for pleasantries at this point and this wasn't exactly something they could discuss in the hall. Also this world's Hawkeye wasn't dead anymore, and was with them, but Emma had much bigger problems on her hands than any existential crises that might happen. |
Clint | Luckily, Clint was skilled at having quiet existential crises and just stared at the other Hawkeye for a moment before looking to Kitty and shaking his head. "Just once, I want to come home with you and be bored." |
![]() Hawkeye | This Clint was not skilled at quiet existential crises, as he'd so far refused to have his memory restored and therefore was having his very first crisis today. Like, all day today. And now there was some guy with his face. "What the hell is this?" |
Clint | "Uh. It's kind of a long story," Clint said, giving the other him a sheepish look. "I'm you, from another version of our world. Which I guess isn't actually that long of a story after all." |
Logan | "Compared to the story we've been dealin' with so far today, that's nothin'," Logan said. "You doin' okay with this, Kitty?" Yeah, her he'd play nice with. The version of Barton who'd already shot him with an arrow today? Nope. |
Kitty | "No," Kitty said, almost surprised at how much she meant that even though she probably shouldn't have been. "Which part am I supposed to be okay with, the part where I just had the wrong twenty-two years stuck inside my head, or the formerly dead alternate universe boyfriend, or that the whole world is wrong?" |
Clint | "I think the second part's pretty okay." Not that he was biased or anything. "I don't really understand the point in making the whole world wrong though." |
Scott | "It was the Scarlet Witch," Scott explained as he stepped forward. "Magneto apparently got to her, made her remake the world in his image. And no, Kitty, that's not something you should be okay with. But keep that anger to channel into something productive, because we'll be going after them soon enough." |
![]() Layla | "Am I going to be needed for that part?" Layla asked warily. She really didn't want to be needed for that part. She'd woken up yesterday and the whole world was wrong, and it just so happened that the first person she told was Luke Cage, and now she was showing everyone the whole world was wrong. She'd rather be in school. |
Clint | "I have the same question," Clint asked, except he didn't sound turned off by the idea. "I've more than hit my limit on having my mind messed with. I know I'm not technically part of things here, but I can still help." He was just going to assume that Kitty was in because hi, he'd met her. |
Kitty | "You got screwed with, you're part of things here," Kitty said, resisting the urge to start fiddling with her ring, which frankly she didn't know whether to take off or leave on because it felt weird either way. "Who's the new kid?" |
Logan | "The kid's Layla," Logan explained. "She's the only one other than me who remembered the way the world really is. But she can make other people remember, too, especially with Emma's help." |
![]() Layla | "I'm a mutant, I guess," Layla said, still trying to get used to that when all of this was still freaking her out. "It's been a really weird day." |
Clint | "If you hang around with these folks long enough, your days are going to get a lot weirder," Clint said with a friendly smile. "But you're in good hands. And, uh, thanks for fixing us." |
Logan | "You're welcome," Logan said, totally stealing Layla's thunder. "Now if you're gonna join up, we've gotta go. We still got a lot of people to fix before we're ready to put everything right." |
Kitty | There wasn't really any question for Kitty as to whether she was going to go or not. What was she going to do, sit around here in her fake life and wait to see what happened? "Right," she said, even though she had a lot of questions on how 'put everything right' was supposed to happen. She looked at Clint and said, "You ready?" |
Clint | Clint wasn't sure how to put everything right either, but wherever Kitty was going, he was going too. "As ready as I'll ever be." |
