Xavier School- Wednesday evening

Kitty

Today had started out like any other day, and had quickly descended into chaos... also like any other day.

Hisako had burst into the lounge saying she was worried about Wing, which was quickly followed by Emma and all the other telepaths and psychics in the mansion simultaneously passing out and bleeding from the nose. That had led to rushing them to the infirmary and failing to find any cause for it, and sorry, Clint, Kitty brought you right smack into the middle of crazy.

Clint

The thing about getting drawn into Kitty's kind of crazy was that it didn't look all that different from his own kind of crazy. Chaos here just tended to involve more mutants than he was used to.

"It's not a good sign that all the people who can sense when crap is coming are the ones who got taken out, right?" he asked, to get a general sense of how utterly screwed they all were.

Hank

"And the ones who doesn't have to communicate out loud," Hank added. Nice and foreboding. "There isn't a thing out of place. No toxins, no bleeding or swelling... Nine people just shut down."

Kitty

"What about others?" Kitty wondered. "Is this localized, or... What about the Professor?"

You know, the one she'd heard nothing about since she started working here in September.

Clint

"Do you guys know any other psychics who aren't here? We could try contacting them," Clint said. "They might even be willing to help."

He was all about calling people for help when he wasn't directly the one who needed it!

Logan

"You're not gonna reach anyone from here," Logan said, joining them in the hall.

Scott

"Phones are down?" Scott guessed. If he sounded completely not surprised, it was because he wasn't really surprised, no.

Clint

"And everything else too, I imagine." Clint was also not surprised, which might have been a sign he was hanging around here too much. "That's so reassuring. Not at all a sign that we should feel trapped in here."

Hank

When Logan didn't disagree, Hank said, "So we have no way of reaching the outside world. Unless of course we go there... We're just twenty minutes from town and there's no one in there that can't be moved..."

Scott

"Unless that's what they want," Scott pointed out. "The compound has defenses the woods around don't."

Clint

"People will scatter more outside. At least in here, it's easier to stay together," Clint said. "And we still don't know what might be out there."

Kitty

Kitty was about to say something when Lockheed suddenly buzzed right past her head, agitated. "Woah, Lockheed, what's going on?" she asked, watching him hover in mid-air pointing his nose back the way he'd come.

"I asked him to do long-range recon," she explained to the others. "He must have found something. Something that's coming this way."

Logan

"Then might be time for us to find out what's out there," Logan said, maybe looking forward to it a little. It was hard to tell with them.

Of course, he also immediately started towards the entrance, all but forcing the others to follow.

Clint

As he followed, Clint might have said something unkind about Logan under his breath, but with all the psychics out for the count, who would know? Which reminded him-- "Hey, with the Psychic Network down, how come you and Lockheed can still do your thing?"

Kitty

It was hard to shrug while running towards an unknown problem, but Kitty tried it anyway. "I don't know. Our connection's intuitive, I guess. More instinct than thought."

If there was real thought involved, she'd probably know about Lockheed terrorizing her boyfriends.

Logan

"What's his instinct on this?" Logan asked as they neared the front gate.

Clint

Clint debated on whether or not to say something that would make Kitty smack him, but when they got outside, there was suddenly a more urgent question to ask. "Uh, guys? Where are all the lights?"

Lockheed

Having an easy solution to that, Lockheed flew over and blew flame, revealing a dilapidated- if fully operational- Sentinel putting its giant fist down right on the other side of the gate.

Giant freaking Sentinel

There wasn't time to do much of anything before the Sentinel was firing on them. Peter armored up and threw himself in front of Logan to catch the blast, Scott dove out of the way and lowered his glasses to return fire with his eyebeams, and all Kitty could do was phase.

Clint

It might have said something good that Clint's first instinct was to reach for Kitty, not because he felt she needed protection but because he knew she would phase and he wanted to go with her. It was possible he could learn sometimes.

Sentinel

Once the blast had died down, the Sentinel grabbed the gate and held it above its head. "Destroy the oppressors!"

Scott

As the gate went crashing into the roof of the school, sending Lockheed flying out of the way, Scott turned back to the others. Everyone looked okay- Peter's shirt aside- so he yelled, "Kitty! Get the kids below now! I want all of them in the Danger Room till this monster's down."

Clint

"Go on, we've got this." Or, rather, the mutants would have it and Clint might be able to help, but that still counted as 'we' as far as he was concerned.

Logan

Getting a better look at it, it seemed to be missing an arm and a leg, along with the side of its head, and was starting to topple forward. So as Kitty ran towards the mansion, Peter and Logan ran towards the Sentinel.

"Getting this thing down ain't gonna be the problem," Logan said, unsheathing his claws as Peter got underneath the Sentinel enough to hold it up.

Scott

Scott meanwhile was trying to get into a position to hit something vital, which was proving difficult. It might be at least partially disabled, but the Sentinel was still fighting and trying to swat everyone off.

"Come on, move..." he muttered under his breath, shooting off a quick blast at some exposed wiring.

Clint

Clint took a few steps back to make sure Kitty really had gone back inside, figure out where everyone else was, and look for any weak spots in the... thing in front of them.

"I am never going anywhere here without my bow again, ever," he muttered.

Scott

Thinking he had a good angle, Scott shot his eye beams towards the Sentinel's face, but the Sentinel brought its one arm up to block, sending the beams ricocheting.

And then the Sentinel used that same arm to backhand Scott and send him flying, and then it fired at the mansion.

Clint

Clint dropped to the ground and then looked behind himself. He was pretty sure his heart stopped for a second until he saw that the mansion was, in fact, still there and not obliterated with Kitty and the kids inside it. "Do you guys know how to shut that thing down?" he yelled.

Scott

That was something Scott would prefer to never ever do again, ever. But when he saw what was happening to the mansion, and that Peter and Logan were still fighting the thing but not making any real headway, he picked himself halfway up and yelled, "Behind me! Everybody, get behind me, now!"

Logan

Logan and Peter both jumped down from where they were attacking the Sentinel on that order, but Logan insisted, "I gotta get its mainframe!"

Clint

Clint had no problem getting behind Scott, but he did have to stare at Logan for a second. "How? That in no way sounds like a good idea!"

Logan

Logan held up one of his claws and shrugged.

Wolverine's gotta wolve.

Scott

"There's no time for that," Scott said, lowering his glasses but keeping his eyes shut for the moment. "I want this thing off my lawn."

And then he opened his eyes, hitting the Sentintel with a blast that not only knocked it flat, but put a crater in the area where it had stood.

Clint

Clint stared toward the crater, and then back at Scott. "Remind me to never make you mad."

Logan

There wasn't a lot that Scott had done lately that impressed Logan, but uh. "Every once in a while I remember why he's still in charge."

Scott

"Rip its guts out, Logan," Scott said, letting Peter help him up. Getting smacked around by a Sentinel did tend to knock the wind out of you. "That thing must have been torn apart in one of our old battles. What made it come back? If it's an attack, why send half an antique?"

Clint

"I don't know," Clint said, picking himself up and dusting himself off. That was Clint's go-to answer for most things mutant related, but still, it was especially true now. "But whatever its reason is, it thinks you're oppressors."

That probably wasn't a good sign at all.
