Narita National Airport- Tokyo, and elsewhere- Wednesday

After meeting up with Lockheed it was off to Japan, and apparently Kitty's awesome little friend was a) not a fan of portals, and b) not a fan of the image inducer he had to use. In settings like the X-mansion or Fandom, people wouldn't freak out much seeing a little purple dragon around, but in public like, it worked so much better if he could look like a harmless cat. One that didn't breathe fire.

"It's been a really long time since I've come here legally, so I'm not really sure where we get a ride out of this place," she said as she and Clint walked through the airport.

Clint

"It's been a long time since I've been here period," Clint said, glancing around. He was looking for anything out of the ordinary as much as he was trying to find them transportation. "Why did you have to come here illegally?"

Kitty

"I had to get here quick on my own with no money. I had to phase onto a plane and stow away. I do not recommend doing this ever," she said, trying to ignore the unhappy noises Lockheed was making in his carrier. "Just taking an X-plane is so much more comfortable."

Clint

"I'll have to take your word on that," Clint said. "Is he going to be okay in there?" Not that he was worried about Lockheed or anything.

Kitty

"Yeah, he's just cranky. He hates looking like this," she said. "But we'll get out of here, and get somewhere private, and he can be as purple and adorable as he wants to be."

Clint

"Somewhere private? I like the sound of that," Clint said. Sorry Lockheed, Clint had priorities here.

Ryoko

Clint's priorities were probably going to have to wait a little longer than he'd like, thanks to the Japanese woman who'd been watching since they left the gate. Taking advantage of a small break in the crowd around them, she stepped closer and said in Japanese, "Hello. Kitty Pryde?"

Kitty

Kitty probably should have expected something like this, since she was here thanks to a mysterious letter from an unknown sender, but she was still a little wary here. "Depends who's asking," she replied back.

Clint

Clint gave the woman a pleasant smile as he slipped his arm around Kitty's waist. It was a casual movement, but it also hid him double checking for the weapon up his sleeve.

Ryoko

"My name is Ryoko Oshiba," she said, friendly enough even as she presented her badge. "I'm with the JDSS, a division of Japanese Intelligence Services."

Kitty

Okay, there was no way Kitty could have expected to be approached by a government agent today. "Sorry, but there must be some mistake. We're just here to see the sights, catch up with some old friends..."

Clint

Clint definitely would have felt better if this woman didn't know Kitty's name, and he nodded along with Kitty as he tried to usher her away with him. "Thank you though, have a nice day."

Ryoko

While he confused Ryoko, since Kitty was supposed to have come alone, she gave him a little smile and nodded towards the carrier. "Old friends, indeed. I'm here about the one you're here to visit," she said.

Kitty

Somehow Kitty hadn't thought that anyone sending her the letter she'd gotten would have been from a government agency- she'd at least have expected letterhead, or you know, a phone call- so she was caught off guard. "How did you...?"

Clint

"What kind of intelligence services are you?" Clint asked. He was feeling a little less than trustworthy at the moment, so sorry.

Ryoko

Ryoko lowered her voice, being in public and all. "The Japanese Department of Supernatural Sciences," she replied. "I can explain everything in the car."

Kitty

Kitty looked to Clint and nodded. "It's worth checking out, and it's too public here," she reasoned. She couldn't have Lockheed disguised and talk about dragons publicly.

Clint

Clint wasn't sure he liked the sound of this - what the hell was a Supernatural Science? - but he was willing to let Kitty take the lead here. "All right then, let's go somewhere quieter."

Ryoko

Ryoko didn't tell them much of anything till they got to Section 83 in downtown Tokyo, the home of the JDSS. It was guarded and locked down, but she was trying to be as welcoming as possible.

She even gave them a short version of the tour, so they could see that she was sharing with them. "We're one of the lesser publicized branches of the government. An operation specializing in the investigation of paranormal phenomenon," Ryoko explained as she led them to her office. "We deal with our fair share of alien abductions and hauntings, as well as all sorts of magical and mystical mayhem. But we also keep quite busy with biotech research, and psychic operations and evaluations. Your Professor Xavier is quite an inspiration to us, actually."

Kitty

So far this sounded enough like the WHO that Kitty was still suspicious, but she could let her guard down at least a little. And Lockheed was much happier being able to look like himself and fly around on his own.

"Okay, so where's the dragon?" she asked.

Clint

Kitty might have been able to let her guard down, but Clint couldn't do the same. He stayed behind her, watching her back and keeping an eye on things as well as he could from the ground. "We did take an awfully long trip for her, after all."

Ryoko

"I wasn't 100% truthful with you," Ryoko said after a brief pause. She knew this wouldn't go over well. "She was stolen from us."

Kitty

"Stolen?" Kitty said, way too loudly, so it was good that they'd reached Ryoko's office by now. As they were ushered inside, she continued, "This place is built like a vault, protected by trained experts."

Clint

Seriously, from what Clint had seen so far, even the best spies he knew would have trouble getting in here. "Who could have possibly gotten in?"

Ryoko

"Ninja," Ryoko answered simply. She wasn't happy about it, either.

Kitty

Of course it was ninjas. Why wouldn't it be?

"So you what, sent the letter to lure me here?" Forgive Kitty if she was suspicious due to some seriously bad experiences with ninjas.

Clint

Clint perked up a little at the mention of ninjas, but he also didn't like the sense that this was a trap. "Now I'm glad I came too," he muttered.

Ryoko

"We didn't send the letter," Ryoko said calmly, taking a seat behind her desk. "We merely intercepted you at the airport."

Kitty

"Stupid dragon-stealing, picture-taking, letter-sending ninjas," Kitty grumbled, totally maturely.

Clint

Clint slipped his arm around Kitty again. "If you didn't send the picture, then what are we doing here?"

Ryoko

"I'm asking for your help," Ryoko said. "The ninjas sent the letter and stole the dragon because they want something from Kitty."

Kitty

"And you need me to get what you want from them," Kitty sighed. She looked over at Lockheed, who'd perched himself on Ryoko's desk and was watching at her with big eyes. It was his girlfriend type friend who was in trouble here, after all.

She shot Clint an apologetic look, since it looked like they were going to be getting into a mess here. "All right, what can you tell me about the ninja? Were they Hand?"

Clint

Clint shot Kitty an equally apologetic look since hey, trouble followed him around pretty constantly. "Ugh, Hand. I owe at least a couple of those guys a punch in the face."

Ryoko

"Possibly," Ryoko nodded. "We believe they may be a rogue sect of the Hand. Our intel on them is quite limited. They're known only as the Path of Destiny. Would you like to see where we kept the dragon?"

Kitty

"Not purposely trying to change the subject, are you?" Kitty asked, raising an eyebrow.

Clint

"Even if you are, the answer is yes, we'd like to see the space," Clint said. If nothing else, it might help them figure out how the ninjas got inside.

Ryoko

"I'd be more than happy to show you around. Your dragon might find it entertaining as well."

Plus it'd be easier to keep them from seeing anything she didn't want them to see if they were distracted.

Kitty

"It'd give us a good opportunity to see how they pulled it off," Kitty said, reaching over to scritch Lockheed's head. He'd probably enjoy the tour, too. "Also I'd like to see the surveillance footage you have of the theft."

So much for being too distracted to miss things.

Ryoko

Ryoko hesitated, but she couldn't exactly say there was no footage. In a place locked down this tight, of course there was footage.

Reluctantly, she pulled up the file and turned the computer screen towards them. "We captured only one bit of surveillance on the intruder. Have a look."

Kitty

When the footage played, there really didn't seem to be that much. It was nighttime, and she could barely make out the figure of a man dropping down from above and landing perfectly, but then he looked back directly towards where the camera had been. His face was partially covered, so that wouldn't be any real way to ID him.

Not that you could really a ID a ninja who didn't want to be, anyway.

"He knew you were watching. He let himself be seen," Kitty said, peering closer at the screen. "His eyes... they're just like..."

And when Kitty realized where she'd seen them before, she trailed off, forgetting she had a sentence to finish.

Clint

Clint watched Kitty for a moment before giving her a gentle shake. "Kitty? Are you okay?"

Ryoko

"You must be exhausted," Ryoko said, actually concerned. "I could call for a car to take you to your hotel."

Kitty

Kitty shook it off, trying not to look like she'd just seen a ghost, even if it felt like she'd just seen one.

"I'm fine," she said, offering a little smile. "I'd be okay with the tour now, if you wouldn't mind."

She didn't really want to look at security footage anymore.
